Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • May 16, 2012 Villadom Happenings Learn about veterans’ rights The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, in partnership with The American Legion, will conduct a regional Veterans’ Civil Rights Seminar on May 19 at the Paramus Veterans’ Memorial Home, 1 Veterans Drive in Paramus. Registration will begin at noon. The seminar will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. All veterans, family members, and veteran service organizations are invited to attend. Club holds Annual Plant Sale The Allendale Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. A large selection of locally grown and nursery plants will be sold from the library lawn. Club members will be on hand to help with selections and assist when needed. One of the club’s activities is to maintain the plants at the library, the town clock, and the Fell House. The sale is the organization’s only fundraiser. History Day will bring Civil War home The Coalition of Northwest Bergen Historical organizations will host its second Northwest Bergen County History Day Tour on May 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eight historical homes and museums will be open to tour that day. In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, each historical site will feature a special Civil War era exhibit. Visitors will enjoy learning more about the rich history of Bergen County. Participants will include The Schoolhouse Museum at 650 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood; The Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus; The John Fell House, 475 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale; The HopperGoetschius House Museum, 363 East Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River; The Old Stone House, 538 Island Road in Ramsey; The Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah; The Van Allen House, 3 Franklin Avenue in Oakland; and The Zabriskie House, 421 Franklin Avenue in Wyckoff. Tickets for admission to all eight sites are $10 a person; children under 12 years old will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased through the coalition’s historical organizations. They will also be on sale at the Schoolhouse Museum in Ridgewood on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. and at Abma’s Farm Market in Wyckoff Monday through Saturday from The Italian American Social Club of Waldwick traveled to New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival that celebrates local musical, culinary, and visual artistry with 22 stages, 75 restaurant tents, and 18 special events. The club also toured the New Orleans American Italian Cultural Center, which houses The American Italian Museum. Exhibits detail the history of American Italians in the southeastern U.S. and their contributions to all areas of our daily lives. IASCW members also toured the National WW2 Museum and saw the Monument to the Immigrants that overlooks the Mississippi River at the site where America’s earliest immigrant wave of Sicilians arrived. Club visits French Quarter 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be equally divided among the eight historical homes and museums on the tour. The coalition will sell grilled hotdogs and sodas at the picnic area at the Hopper-Goetschius House Museum in Upper Saddle River. For more information about the tour, e-mail info@ridge woodhistoricalsociety.org. ‘Touch a Truck’ event set The Junior League of Bergen County will host its Eighth Annual Touch a Truck on Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus. Children and their parents are invited to view, climb on, and touch trucks in a safe, supervised environment. The day’s events will include a variety of activities, photo opportunities, food, and refreshments. Parents are reminded to bring cameras. Entry is $20 for a family of four when purchased in advance at www.thejlbc.org or e-mail contactus@thejlbc. org. Tickets purchased at the gate will be $25. The cost for an additional attendee is $5.
