Page 16 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • May 16, 2012 Allendale Notebook Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show seeks participants Guardian Angel Church will hold its Second Annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, on Saturday, June 9 at the church located at 320 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will feature live entertainment by B Sharp and The World Upside Down, children’s activities, food and beverages. The pre-registration fee for vehicles is $15 through May 31. From June 1 through the day of the show, the cost to register will be $20. Crafters and vendors are welcome to reserve a spot at the show for $25. Setup will be at 10:30 a.m. Crafters and vendors must provide their own tables and chairs. Electricity will not be available. Proceeds from the event will benefit the youth ministry at Guardian Angel Church. ARC sponsors 5K Run The Allendale Recreation Commission will sponsor a 5K Run on Sunday, May 20. The 9 a.m. event will start at Crestwood Lake’s Red Barn. The USATF certified course runs around the ball fields, through Northern Highlands, back through Crestwood Lake, and ends at the Red Barn. The day’s highlights will include a one-mile fun run and 50-yard dash for younger children. Allendale merchants are invited to participate by setting up a table/booth at the Red Barn at no charge. Sponsors are also needed. For $250, a business sponsor will receive its name/logo on the back of the T-shirt, on a thank you poster at the event, and on the ARC website. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Brookside School Auditorium, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. Electronic waste collection set Northern Highland High School’s Environmental Club will collect electronic waste on Saturday, May 19 in the parking lot of the high school on Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Local residents may bring their obsolete or broken electronics and home office equipment including keyboards, printers, CPU monitors, televisions, phone systems, fax machines, and gaming systems, to the school between 8 a.m. and noon. Board of trustees to meet The Lee Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet May 16 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Quilt Room at the library located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Group to discuss Rachman novel The book group at the Lee Memorial Library will meet Tuesday, May 15 to discuss Tom Rachman’s “The Imperfectionists.” The group meets at 7 p.m. and all are welcome. Registration is not necessary. Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk. The library is located at 500 West Crescent Avenue. Spring Book Sale planned The Friends of the Allendale Library will host the Spring Book Sale on May 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, 500 West Crescent Avenue. Current and topical books, tapes, and videos for adults and children may be purchased at bargain prices. The sale will feature many children’s books, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, and current best-sellers. Prices will be 25 cents to $1. Proceeds go to the library for the purchase of new materials. Hayward to perform at Calvary Calvary Lutheran Church will host “A Cool Afternoon of Hot Jazz” on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. The program will feature alto sax artist Timothy Hayward with piano accompaniment. An accomplished performer, composer, and arranger who has achieved international acclaim, Hayward began playing professionally at 18. He has written works for a cappella choir, solo saxophone, solo instruments and piano, and big bands. He has created his own groups, including the Timothy Hayward Trio, the Timothy Hayward a Cappella Project, Timothy Hayward Quartet, and the Timothy Hayward “NYC Quartet.” These groups perform Hayward’s compositions regularly in France and in the United States. Hayward now co-leads New Jersey’s “One More Once Big Band.” His recently published “Songbook” brings together 121 of his jazz originals.
