Gardeners to host speaker The Saddle River Garden Club will host a speaker from Borst Landscaping and Design on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. The topic for discussion will be how to prevent deer from damaging a garden. The meeting will be held at the Bishop House, 176 East Saddle River Road in Saddle River. The public is welcome. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the media center of the Cavallini Middle School located at 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Annual Strawberry Festival set The Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church will host its 55th Annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 9 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the church at 318 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. The community is invited to help celebrate and enjoy performances by the Applause Performing Arts Center and the Bergen Highlands Youth Theatre. The festival will include handpicked strawberries
served over homemade ice cream and pound cake. The day’s activities will include face painting and crafts for children, food, music, retail vendors offering a variety of goods, and fundraising contests featuring prizes. Club welcomes members, hosts events The Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club welcomes all residents from Saddle River and Upper Saddle River, regardless of the length of their residency. Book groups announce meetings Two book discussion groups that meet at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River, have announced their upcoming meetings. Coffee Talk will meet on May 17 to discuss “Wicked” by Jeremy Maguire. The group meets on the second
Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Novels at Night will discuss Nikolai Gogol’s “Dead Souls” on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month. Gogol’s novel is available to download from BeAT or may be borrowed on a library eReader. This service is available to Upper Saddle River patrons only. Lions hold Annual Carnival The Saddle River Valley Lions Club Carnival will begin on Memorial Day, May 28, and continue through June 2 at Lions Park on Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Rides and games will be available for all age groups. On May 28, the carnival will open from 4 to 10 p.m. Hours will be 7 to 10 p.m. from May 29 through June 2. At 10 p.m. on the last night of the carnival, the winner of 2012 Ford Mustang will be announced. All proceeds from the event will benefit charities that support the visually impaired and other local organizations. (continued from page 3) Waldwick’s facility includes a main pool, a wading pool, a concession stand, and a new swing set for young patrons. The pool, which is located at Hopper Avenue and West Prospect Street, is open from noon to 8 p.m. weekdays beginning June 25, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends beginning May 26. The pre-season rates for Waldwick and Midland Park residents through June 22 are $55 for adults, $50 for children and $45 for seniors. Rates for non residents are $150 for adults age 18 and up and $125 for children ages four to 17. Children who are three years old or younger are admitted free. An additional $10 fee will apply to each badge
