The Waldwick Police Department expects to hire two new police officers in time to enroll them into the Bergen County Police Academy this summer. The borough council last week agreed to request a certified Civil Service list for the position to begin the process. Ptl. Jeff Manndel, a 42-year veteran, left the force in April after reaching the mandatory retirement age. He was hired by the borough in May 1970 and graduated from the Bergen County Police and Fire Academy in November of 1970. “Jeff is a good man, and he will be missed,” said Police Chief Mark Messner. newest member of the force, will leave effective May 18. She has taken a position with the Woodland Park Police Department, where she lives. Carino was hired off the Civil Service Rice list last July after she was laid off from the Paterson Police Department, where she served for four years. A U.S. Navy veteran, Carino was stationed in Manama, Bahrain during Operation Iraqi Freedom, receiving several commemorative medals and awards. She served in the U.S. Navy until 2003, when she was honorably discharged as a Yeoman, Second Class. “She was doing a good job for us, and while we are saddened by her departure, we understand her reasons and wish her well,” the chief said. Friends of the Waldwick Library have announced the expansion of their popular museum pass program to include free general admission to the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum and to the American Museum of Natural History. In order to obtain the pass for the Intrepid, a borrower must hold a valid Waldwick library card, be at least 18 years of age, reserve the card for a specific date, read and sign a special agreement, and make a $40 cash deposit at the library’s circulation desk. The pass will be due back at the library two days after checkout, and a refund of the deposit will be made for ontime return. The pass for the Intrepid pro-

vides free general admission for six people; however, the Waldwick Library card holder must be present and show the pass and valid library card for entry to the Intrepid. Tickets to the special exhibit at the Space Shuttle Pavilion, scheduled to open July 19, may be purchased at the Intrepid at a cost of $6 for adults and $4 for youth. Children under the age of three will be admitted to the Space Shuttle Pavilion at no charge. The recently restructured museum pass program for the American Museum of Natural History now offers Waldwick Library card holders free general admission and one special exhibition, film, or live animal (continued on page 29)
