Chamber plans ‘A Taste of Ho-Ho-Kus’ event
by Jennifer Crusco Plans are now in progress for “A Taste of Ho-Ho-Kus,” a June 7 evening out sponsored by the Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce. Last week, Chamber President Steven Sager and Vice President Kelly Velasquez approached the borough council with the concept, and the council agreed to allow event participants to use the commuter parking lot while they visit the stores and restaurants in the borough’s downtown business district. Sager noted that he has already asked Ho-Ho-Kus Police Chief John Wanamaker about the possibility of stationing crossing guards at Maple Avenue and Sheridan Avenue on the night of the event. The president described the event as a “progressive dinner,” in which participants will have the opportunity to sample fine wines and signature dishes from the downtown’s many restaurants. “Retailers are also encouraged to be open,” Velasquez told the council. “We hope to have people walk around downtown,” Sager explained. Councilman Phil Rorty asked if there would be entertainment at the Ho-Ho-Kus Town Green. Velasquez said the goal is to have participants walk through the downtown and stop inside various establishments. However, she acknowledged that the participating businesses might decide to offer entertainment within their own shops or restaurants. Councilwoman Maryellen Lennon asked if those who attend the event would be walking around outside with alcoholic beverages. Velasquez said those who attend would be permitted to sample alcoholic beverages while they are still inside the participating establishments. Mayor Thomas Randall reminded Sager and Velasquez to make the requisite arrangements for public safety and wished them well. Contacted after the meeting, Sager told Villadom TIMES the current plans call for the event to begin at 6 p.m. continue until
9:30 p.m. on June 7. “Residents from Ho-Ho-Kus and the surrounding towns are welcome to experience what Ho-Ho-Kus has to offer,” he said. While the event is still in the planning stages, Sager said the Chamber will sell tickets at a reasonable price to be determined. Tentative plans call for the event proceeds to benefit the community, and may be devoted to a scholarship fund and to holiday decorations. The organization will be meeting over the next few weeks to finalize the details of “A Taste of Ho-Ho-Kus.” Check this newspaper for details.
