Frank Consiglio of Mahwah died April 20. He was 91. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He was past president of the Local 74 labor union. In 1995, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Suffern High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and golf. He was inducted in the Rockland County Hall of Fame for his achievements. He holds the records at Darlington Golf Course and Monroe Country Club and Warwick Country Club and Johnson Country Club. He is survived by his children Joyce Miller of Mahwah, Helen Bauer (Lyn) of Ridgewood, and Frank of Vorhees, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor. Arrangements were made by the Scarr Funeral Home Inc. in Suffern. De Angelis, nee Brois, of Ramsey died April 25. She was 79. She is survived by her children Frank, Juliana Cerniglia, Diana Heflich, Susanna Maresca, and Mark, and 12 grandchildren. He was a member of the Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church where he was the Sunday school superintendent for 28 years. He was an original member of the Upper Saddle River Fire Department and the Historical Society in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his sister Alice Kruppo of Ramsey, his nephews Roger Williams of Kennebunkport, Maine and Kenneth Kruppo of Oak Ridge, and 12 grand and great nephews and nieces. John Edward Mabie of Upper Saddle River died April 23. He was 86. He was a U.S Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He was a master mason and land surveyor. He is survived by his wife Jean H. Mabie (nee Hunt), his children Edward H Mabie, Susan Mabie McNamee, Linda A. Wilke, and Frederick B. Mabie, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his brothers Frederick J. Mabie, Donald Mabie, and Robert Mabie. He was predeceased by his siblings Gloria Dunkin, and Kenneth Mabie. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Mark Moglia of Waldwick died April 19. He was 46. He was a 1983 graduate of Waldwick High School. He was a partner with D.N.D. Trucking in Harriman, New York, and attended Saint Luke’s R.C. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his sister and brother-in law Maria Ann and John McWilliams, his brother and sister-in-law James J. and Jodi Moglia, nephews Parker McWilliams and Eric Moglia, and niece Michelle Moglia. He was predeceased by his parents Emidio and Emma Moglia. Arrangements were made by at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. Rhoda Reynolds of Midland Park, formerly of Westwood, died April 24. She was 59. She had earned her doctorate in management. She was an adjunct professor of English at William Paterson University, specializing in technical and business writing. She was a teacher for the summer Educational Opportunity Fund program. In 2011 she gave the keynote address to the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. She had belonged to the Westwood Reformed Church, the Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, and Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her husband Bruce, her brother Bob Sloyer, four nieces, and a nephew. She was predeceased by her mother Helen Sloyer Suffern, her stepfather Dr. Richard Suffern, and her father Rev. G. Travers Sloyer. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Merrilee Ruth Scott, nee Morschauser, of Mahwah, formerly of Montvale, died April 11. She was 67. She attended Saint Helena High School. She worked for many years for the Educational Opportunity Fund and the health services office at Ramapo College in Mahwah. She is survived by her children Ian Scott and Kieran Viola, both of River Vale and Erin Scott of Mahwah; her grandchildren Peyton, MacKinley, and Ava Scott, and Brady and William Viola, and adopted grandchild Roxy Menhaj. Elizabeth Marie Speer of Ramsey died April 9. She was 89. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School. She was employed with Western World Insurance Co. in Midland Park for 33 years, retiring at age 79. She was on the board of directors for the School of the New Moon in Mount Tremper, New York. She is survived by her daughters Christine Oliveira of Woodstock, New York and Stephanie Speer of Stone Ridge, New York. Arrangements were made by Van Emuburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Ho-Ho-Kus Jottings
Seniors learn about space Space historian Joe Lenox will present “One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind” to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on May 22. The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building at 335 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. Beverages and desserts are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m. or as noted. Residents age 55 and up are welcome. Contact Joan at (201) 444-4896 for program information. HSA offers scholarships The Ho-Ho-Kus Home & School Association is offering $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who currently reside in Ho-Ho-Kus and have attended the HoHo-Kus Public School for at least one year. The awards are based on scholarship, leadership, and community service. The need for financial assistance will not be a prerequisite. Interested students may pick up an application at borough hall, the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, or the office at Northern Highlands High School. The application deadline is May 11. Nursery school holds Open House The Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School will hold a Spring Open House on Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and their preschoolers are invited to stop in to see the classrooms and meet with the teachers and current members. Classes for two-, three- and four-year-olds are available for the 2012-13 school year. The nursery school offers various educational enrichment programs, including music, Spanish, and French, and new extended and full day options. The school offers a co-op opportunity so parents can assist in their child’s classroom. A non-participating co-op status is also available. Contemporary Club hosts fundraiser Tickets are now on sale for annual cash prize contest hosted by the Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus. Tickets will be sold through June 9. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Youth Activities Council of Ho-Ho-Kus and the Contemporary Club’s Scholarship Fund, which assists graduating high school seniors in Ho-Ho-Kus.
