The borough council last week introduced a bond ordinance appropriating $200,000 for the project. Of that amount $146,500 will ultimately be reimbursed to the town by the NJDOT. “It’s time,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz of the road work. “That road seems to have been the target of every utility over the last few years,” he added. Kratz said the mile long road had probably not been resurfaced for 20 years. It will be done its entire length in Waldwick, from East Prospect Street to the Ho-HoKus border. He said he expects the job will be done over the summer, with the sides milled and the road surface repaved. The public hearing on the bond ordinance is scheduled for the council’s May 8 meeting. Chamber contributes to ‘One Box-One Soldier’ The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce recently collected items to contribute to the Waldwick American Legion Auxiliary One Box-One Soldier program. Pictured with some of the contributions, from left, are Chamber President Christine Figliuolo, Treasurer Kelly Velasquez; June Augusta, who suggested the program after her son was killed in Iraq, and Auxiliary President Nancy Nielsen. More than 1,200 boxes including toiletries, snacks, magazines, cards and letters have been sent out through the Waldwick program, headed by Steve and Jan Toms. Schools, businesses, organizations and residents at large are asked to contribute items which can then be assembled by trained packers into the care boxes. Items may be dropped off at the Legion Home, 44 Franklin Turnpike, after 5 p.m. daily or call Jan Toms at 201-519-8269 or June Augusta at 201-652-2464 for drop-off or pick-up arrangements.
