March 28, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Upper Saddle River On Saturday, April 21, the Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation will host its ninth “Town Night Out” at Greenbaum Interiors in Historic Paterson at 7 p.m. This year, the USREF will honor Mayor Joanne Minichetti as the 2012 recipient of the foundation’s Award for Educational Excellence. Minichetti is being recognized for her long-term commitment to the community and for her civic leadership. Minichetti, who is the first woman mayor of Upper Saddle River, was one of the original founders of the USREF and served six years on the foundation’s executive board. She has also served as past PTO President and was a member of the PTO Executive Board for six years. The honoree is also well known as a veteran Girl Scout Town Night Out gala set; Minichetti to be honored leader. Minichetti has been working with local Girl Scouts for over 21 years. She has also been liaison for the USR Youth Guidance Council and a former mayor’s representative on the library board. Prior to becoming mayor, Minichetti served on the borough council for four years and was council president in 2011. She is a former president of the USR Board of Health and commissioner of the Northwest Bergen Health Commission. She is a member of the borough’s Green Team and co-chair of the Vision 2020 Project. In recent years, she has become involved in the Make a Wish Foundation. As mayor, she continues to be involved in borough activities and is often invited to speak at various events. The USREF invites the community to enjoy this “Ultimate House Party,” which will include food and beverages, jazz, dancing, and fabulous auctions. Proceeds from Town Night Out support grants that allow teachers to implement creative and educational curriculumbased programs for students in kindergarten through grade eight, and cover the cost of exceptional educational tools such as Smart Boards. Mach exhibits paintings at SRVCC The Saddle River Valley Cultural Center will feature “Sunrise/Sunset,” an exhibit of paintings by Laurence Mach, during the month of April. Mach’s work has been recognized in private collections worldwide and in venues that include the National Academy Museum, Fifth Avenue, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City, The Edward Hopper House in Nyack, New York, and the Montclair Museum Yard School of Art. His interest in drawing and painting began at age 13. He continued to paint and draw during his graduate studies in film and television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He studied cinematography with Beda Batka and still photography with Paul Detail of a Mach painting. Caponegro and John Szarkowski. His solo show, “One Hundred Views of the National Academy School,” presented 65 paintings and 35 drawings of artists and models produced from life. Mach honed his compositional skills while producing and directing films, videos and slide/sound presentations with AT&T Bell Laboratories, Armstrong World Industries, Bose Stereo, and Polaroid Corporation. As manager of communications at M. Grumbacher, Inc., he directed an extensive program of art competitions. He also managed a nationwide arts education program live and televised.
