YWCA offers Vacation Day Program The YWCA Bergen County is offering its Vacation Day program for children in kindergarten through grade six from April 2 through 5 and April 9 through 13. Children will enjoy trips and activities including Planet 301, Giggles, Bounce U, Color Me Mine, movies, and bowling. Most trips include lunch. The YWCA Vacation Day program provides full-day care from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on designated school holidays. Based at the YWCA’s 112 Oak Street, Ridgewood facility, the program is supervised by the YWCA’s trained child care staff. The fee is $55 per child per day for families that are currently participating in YWCA Before or After School programs, and $75 for non-participating families. Advance registration is required. YWCA Before and After School Programs are offered at schools in seven Bergen County districts: Allendale, Cresskill, Dumont, Old Tappan, Oradell, Ridgewood, and Westwood. Chamber hosts Taste of the Region event The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of the Region & Business Showcase event will return in spectacular fashion on Tuesday, April 24. Local residents from New Jersey and New York will have the chance to sample many of the area’s finest foods and wines. The Taste of the Region & Business Showcase will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center at 3 Executive Boulevard in Suffern, New York. The Crowne Plaza Hotel is the event’s platinum-level sponsor. Taste of the Region participants will include many restaurants, caterers, and beverage distributors. Attendees will also be able to make connections with area companies that will be exhibiting at the event as part of the business showcase. Exhibitor tables and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets are $50 in advance; $65 at the door. College sponsors events Ramapo College will offer three upcoming performances at the Russ Berrie Center for Performing Arts at 505 Ramapo Valley Road in Mahwah. The American Place Theatre will present “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. The show is a verbatim adaptation of a best-selling memoir of survival and resiliency told through the eyes of a young girl. The one-hour performance also features pre- and postshow discussions. Tickets are $10; Ramapo students are admitted free. On March 31, the Mack Brandon’s Gospel Extravaganza will perform a celebration of music and vocal harmonies. Tickets are $19, $21, and $23 for adults and $15 for children under the age of 17. The gospel choir concert will begin at 8 p.m. Songwriter Jimmy Webb will perform “By the Time I Get to Phoenix: The Legendary Jimmy Webb” on Sunday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Best known for the classics he provided for such artists as Glen Campbell (“By The Time I Get to Phoenix”), Richard Harris (“MacArthur Park”), and The Fifth Dimension, (“Up, Up and Away”), this Oklahomaborn son of a preacher is a critically-acclaimed songwriting talent whose music has thrilled audiences over more than 40 years. YMCA hosts ‘Havana Nights’ benefit On May 4, the Ridgewood YMCA will honor Scott and Bayne Belair at “Havana Nights!” a fundraiser to benefit the Ridgewood YMCA’s Good Works Programs. The event will take place at the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with drinks and hors d’oeuvres, followed by authentic Cuban cuisine, an energetic Cuban band, and professional dance instructors. The evening will include a cash prize contest and an auction. The ballroom will be transformed into a vintage Havana plaza, illuminated with lanterns and candles, and tropical floral arrangements, including live palm plantings. The evening will honor Ridgewood residents Scott and Bayne Belair for their outstanding service to the YMCA and community.
