Waldwick March 21, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce’s 5th Annual 5K Run will be held this year on Sunday, May 6. With expectations of over 500 hundred runners and walkers, the 5K has grown to be a town wide event, drawing local business sponsorship and community support. Funding raised by the 5K is given back to beautifying the community as well as donated to community volunteer organizations such as the Waldwick Ambulance Corps, Waldwick Fire Department, Waldwick PBA, Waldwick Community Alliance, CERT, Waldwick Public Library, 5K proceeds to benefit heart-related charities Golden Club and WHS Booster Club. This year in addition to the above organizations, the WCC is proudly donating a portion of its proceeds to three local heart-related charities. Each charity has a connection to a Waldwick resident. Hope with Heart – Created by Waldwick residents June Griffin and her husband, John (who perished in 9/11) after their new born son, Jonathan, passed away with a heart defect in 1989. Hope with Heart is a camp designed specifically for children and young adults with moderate to severe heart disorders and disease. The camp is staffed by medical personnel and trained counselors to create a safe and normal camp environment with activities such as swimming, nature walks, horseback riding, and arts and crafts. Planned evening activities such as campfires, karaoke and animal shows are also included. Hope with Heart offers campers the opportunity to be with peers (continued on page 23) A 57-year-old Waldwick resident was arrested March 8 on charges of engaging in prostitution, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest of Lawrence Duffy Jr. was the result of an investigation conducted by the Waldwick Police Department under the direction of Chief Mark Messner and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Borough man faces prostitution, drug charges Task Force under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello. The arrest stemmed from an investigation in which Duffy was reportedly using the Internet to advertise himself as a prostitute. He was arrested after meeting with an undercover detective whom he believed was a client. Subsequent to his arrest, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his residence.
