Resident says inmates, state could help clean up
by Jennifer Crusco A Ho-Ho-Kus resident recently asked the borough council to look into the possible use of non-violent inmates to help with a town-wide cleanup effort. Speaking at the last council meeting, Jennifer Zilenziger said the Ho-Ho-Kus Department of Public Works is currently under-staffed. Zilenziger asserted that she does not have any issues with the work being done by the DPW, but asked the council what services were not being provided
due to the manpower shortage. She said the department once had 11 employees. Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds Jeff Pattman was in attendance at the council’s public meeting, and acknowledged that the DPW currently has six full-time employees. Zilenziger asked what income the borough receives from the recycling program, and asked if the funds from that program could be used to hire another two DPW employees. The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary recently donated a hand-held pulse oximeter to the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Memorial Ambulance Corps. This device will enable the ambulance corps members to quickly and reliably check the oxygen level and pulse rate in patients.
