Hope with Heart provides this camp without any cost to the family. Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation – Established by Waldwick residents Jim and Sheila Fisher in 2008 when their son, Sean, passed away on his 13th birthday of an undetected heart condition. The foundation was created to help prevent the unnecessary loss of a seemingly healthy and vibrant child. The Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation’s goal is to have underlying heart conditions such as Sudden Cardiac Arrest diagnosed in a timely manner. Funding raised by the foundation provides children with a complete Free Heart Health Screening – including blood pressure readings, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, oxygen saturation testing as well as height, weight and body mass index. Over the past few years, the heart screenings have detected several children with undiagnosed issues who needed additional testing. The Foundation also provides scholarships to high school seniors who personify the type of individual Sean was. Chris Mayer and the Westchester Medical Heart Transplant Unit – Twenty one year old life-long Waldwick resident Chris Mayer received a heart transplant in October of 2011 at Westchester Medical Center’s Heart Transplant Unit. The Chamber’s donation to Westchester Medical Center’s Heart Transplant Unit will aid research and development of new techniques to help find a cure for heart disease. Waldwick Chamber of Commerce President Christine Figliuolo and 5K Coordinator Stan Kowalski expressed appreciation to area and Waldwick residents and businesses for their annual support of the 5K Run. “We couldn’t be any happier in knowing that the 5K donations are going to such great charities and various community groups,” Kowalski said, adding that he hopes everyone comes out to be a part of the event, whether as a runner, walker, or even a spectator.
