On March 2, Kyle Moore received the Top Shot award as he graduated from the Passaic County Police Academy. The award, which was given to Moore for his perfect score on the firearms qualification test, was presented by Waldwick Police Chief Mark Messner. Waldwick Police Department Firearms Instructor Jeffrey Manndel said last week that he had high hopes for Moore after he had conducted pre-academy training with the new police officer. “He did very well here,” Manndel said of Moore’s work in Waldwick. “He has outstanding natural ability and was very good right from the start.” After learning firearms techniques and practicing at the local firing range with Manndel, Moore then began his work at the academy, where he continued to excel. Moore is a lifelong borough resident and a graduate of Waldwick High School.

Moore played football and was captain of the baseball team at Waldwick High. He studied criminal justice and was a member of the baseball team at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, which he attended for two years. For the past two years, he worked as a part-time dispatcher for the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department. He will now officially join his father, Detective Sergeant Douglas Moore, on the Waldwick Police Department. When Kyle Moore took the oath of office in September 2011, Chief Messner said the father/son relationship had been discussed, and was not considered a negative. The chief said both father and son have an admirable work ethic.
