Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • March 7, 2012 Waldwick Council gives nod to pair of bond ordinances The Waldwick Council approved two bond ordinances at its public session last week. Both items were introduced on Feb. 14. Ordinance 2-12 includes a total appropriation of $1,397,750 to be used for various public improvements, new equipment, and vehicles. The newly-approved measure includes $10,000 for computer equipment, $250,000 for resurfacing or reconstruction of various borough roads, and $10,000 for a security screener and surveillance equipment for the police department. The ordinance also includes $540,000 for a new pumper fire engine, including original apparatus and equipment, and $75,100 for fire department equipment that will include air packs and bottles, turnout gear, radio equipment to meet narrowband compliance, pagers, hurst rescue tool upgrades, and a fire hose. Expenditures for the Waldwick Department of Public Works that are included in the bond ordinance are an $8,500 communication and signal system equipment purchase, $7,000 for a welding machine and a roll-off dumpster, and $60,500 for the installation of a liftgate on a DPW vehicle and acquisition of a pickup truck, a plow frame for a leaf truck, and a platform for a salter. The ordinance also includes $60,000 for a recycling truck, the cost of which is to be covered by borough recycling reserve funds. A sum of $26,000 will be dedicated to environmental compliance activities for the prior underground tank closure at the Waldwick Department of Public Works yard and installation of a handicapped Junior Girl Scout Troops 812 and 797 from Waldwick recently earned their nutrition badge by learning about nutrition and the new My Plate Recommendations. Dawn Snyder, BS, CHES, a health educator from Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, taught the Girl Scouts to identify different fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy products; describe what a healthy, well-balanced meal should include; identify foods they eat that could be exchanged with healthier foods; plan healthy breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, and drinks; and read food labels. The Girl Scouts also created an advertisement for their favorite healthy food product. Practical program access lift at the Waldwick Municipal Pool. The ordinance also includes $72,000 in drainage improvements for Veterans Park. Of the total cost, $30,000 will be covered by a Bergen County grant and $42,000 will be covered by the appropriation of Waldwick’s own open space funds. The ordinance also includes a total of $38,650 for drainage improvements at Borough Park, installation of fencing at Borough Park and Veterans Park, and rehabilitation of Whites Pond. These projects will be entirely funded by borough open space trust funds. The borough will issue bonds to cover the majority of the $220,000 needed for sewer system improvements and storm water drainage improvements at Lindbergh Parkway and storm water drainage improvements at the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook. A $120,000 reconstruction of the parking lot at the Senior Center and Fire House Company #2 is also included in the bond ordinance. The total cost will be covered by a $40,000 federal grant, a $3,850 down payment, and bonds in the amount of $76,150. Ordinance 3-12 appropriates $40,000 for improvements to the water system. Projects will include the replacement of water mains, fire hydrants and valves, and leak detection and repair at various locations. After the $2,000 down payment is made on these projects the balance will be funded by bonds.
