Grad Ball Fashion Show tickets on sale The Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee will host its 2012 Fashion Show on Wednesday, March 21 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Seasons Restaurant, 644 Pascack Road in Washington Township. Fashions will be modeled by members of the senior class. The event will feature a DJ, baskets filled with prizes, appetizers, a sit-down dinner, and dessert. A cash bar will be available. Association plans Golf Outing The Waldwick Baseball/Softball Association will host its Second Annual WBSA Golf Outing fundraiser on Wednesday, May 16 at the Black Bear Golf Course. A portion of the proceeds will benefit two scholarships that will awarded to graduating members of the high school’s baseball and softball teams in recognition of their achievements in sports and academics. Football and cheerleading registration set Registration for fall 2012 Waldwick Warrior Football and Cheerleading will be held on Tuesday, March 20 in the Waldwick High School cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The school is located at 155 Wyckoff Avenue in Waldwick. Flag football and mini cheerleading will be offered to children who will be entering first and second grades in September. Cheerleading and tackle football are available to children who will be entering grades three through eight. Registration may be entered online at www.waldwickjrfootball.org, but payment and two photos will still need to be delivered on March 20. Registering online allows for the association to begin planning for the season. Auxiliary schedules Fish and Chips Dinner The Waldwick Fire Department Auxiliary will host its annual Fish and Chips Dinner on Friday, March 30 at the firehouse at 15 East Prospect Street. Fish and Chips and Chicken and Chips dinners will be available. Meals include fries, coleslaw, and dessert. This is a takeout dinner only. Building Blocks to hold Beefsteak Fundraiser Building Blocks Child Center of Waldwick will host its Second Annual Beefsteak Fundraiser on Saturday, April 21 at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the school gym at 136 Wyckoff Avenue in Waldwick. Tickets are $40 per person and include entry, a beefsteak dinner with salad, french fries, beverage, ice cream, coffee, and a “starter kit” with prize tickets. Donations of prizes and gift certificates from individuals and businesses are welcome. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Building Blocks Child Center, a ministry of Christ Community Church. Career group finds temporary space The Waldwick chapter of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a free peer volunteer support group for people who are actively looking for work, will meet at Saint Luke’s Church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus, on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. until the building project at the Waldwick Public Library has been completed. Meetings will take place in the conference room near the church office. Neighbors Helping Neighbors welcomes anyone in career transition: recent college graduates, unemployed, under-employed, those re-entering the job market, struggling entrepreneurs, and retirees looking for part-time work. Used cell phones, cartridges sought The 2012 Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee is seeking donations of used cell phones and empty laser and ink jet printer cartridges. The fundraiser will help support this year’s alcohol-free and drug-free celebration for graduating high school seniors. Ambulance corps seeks volunteers The Waldwick Ambulance Corps is seeking new mem- bers to continue to provide residents with the highest quality service at no charge to patients and their families. Since 1952, the Waldwick Ambulance Corps has been a privately run, volunteer service that depends upon volunteers for the emergency care of Waldwick’s residents. English language classes to resume The Waldwick Library hosts two classes that are free and open to adults who want assistance learning and speaking English. Classes include a conversation group and a learning activities group. Please note that ESOL, or English for Speakers of Other Languages, was previously known as ESL: English as a Second Language. The ESOL Conversation Group will meet on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. This class will feature guided discussions about world news and topics of personal interest. English Language Learning Activities will meet on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. This class will emphasize skill development in reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. E-waste collection underway Large electronic waste collection for the Borough of Waldwick has begun in accordance with New Jersey’s Electronic Waste Management Act, which mandates all electronic waste be removed from the waste stream and recycled. The third Monday of the month has been designated for the e-recycling. The remaining Mondays will continue to be used for white goods collections. Pickup appointments must be made by calling the borough clerk’s office at (201) 652-5300, extension 0 to be put on the pickup schedule for the collection of large items such as televisions, computers, and monitors. There will also be a container available at the recycling center for smaller items such as keyboards, mice, speakers, cell phones, and chargers. The DPW will not collect small items. Residents are responsible for bringing these items to the recycling center. The recycling center is open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Acceptable electronic waste includes computers; laptops; monitors; televisions; desktop printers and printer/ fax/copier/scanner combinations; computer peripherals, including keyboards, mice, hard drives, and other devices; fax machines; DVD players; VCRs and other video players; and cell phones and accessories, including chargers.
