Area March 7, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 11 from among 7,000 entries as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine’s 28th annual competition. He was also selected by Peter Trippi, editor of Fine Art Connoissuer magazine to participate in “Paint the Town,” a premier plein air event. After completing graduate school, Terrone worked abstractly in mixed media on paper. The success he enjoyed was met head on by a strong desire to revisit realism, and he began to paint outdoors. The experience encouraged him to move his energies into landscape painting. This combination of realism and abstraction was transformed into a unique energy evident in his work today. His paintings act as a vehicle to express his love of nature through color and movement. His work has been influenced by Emile Gruppe and other artists of the Cape Joseph Terrone to exhibit plein air oil paintings Ann and Bucks County area. Terrone continues to work with local organizations to further the arts in the Bergen County area. He has recently hosted a plein air landscape, music, and arts festival in conjunction with the Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction Company, where he is now hosting a series of classes. Jacobsen Landscape Design Center is located at 413 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Terrone’s work can be seen at Right Angle Gallery in Hoboken and online at www.thebrighamgalleries.com and www.joeterrone.com. William “Bill” Dator of Mahwah has been sworn in to the Ramapo College Board of Trustees. He replaces Gail Brady, who had served as a trustee since 1993. Dator was born in India, but moved to Mahwah at an early age. He is a graduate of Monmouth College, now a university. Dator did graduate work in real estate at the University of Indiana, the University of Connecticut, and the University of San Francisco Law School. He has been a real estate broker for more than 30 years and is a licensed real estate appraiser in New Jersey. He is currently a broker associate with Coldwell Banker Commercial. Dator played an important role in helping plan the location of the college when he suggested the Stephen Birch estate as a potential site. Dator and his wife, Linda, are supporters of the Ramapo College Foundation, the Golf Outing, the Distinguished Citizens Dinner, and the Havemeyer Edible Garden. “Bill Dator and his wife, Linda, have had a long standing relationship with Ramapo College,” said Ramapo College President Peter P. Mercer. “Bill was the founding president Dator named to Ramapo College Board of the Friends of Ramapo and has been actively involved with our college since 1970. We are pleased to have Bill formally join the college now as a member of the board of trustees. As a life-long resident of Mahwah and a successful businessman, I have no doubt that Bill’s expertise in capital development and community building will serve the college well.” Dator serves as chairman of the Northwest Bergen Utilities Authority, vice chairman of the Mahwah Board of Adjustment, and is an active member of the Mahwah Office of Emergency Management. He has also served as a director of Independence Bank and Commerce Bank North, president of the New Jersey Securities and Syndication Institute, and was the first chairman of the Bergen County Agricultural Development Board. He has also volunteered his time in Mahwah as president of Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce, battalion chief with the Mahwah Fire Department, president of the Mahwah Ambulance Corps, and trustee of the Mahwah Museum.
