June 27, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 7 Allendale Council: Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic by John Koster The Allendale Council has cautioned borough residents to anticipate some heavy traffic this summer and autumn from two, and possibly three, locations where construction is expected. “Myrtle and West Crescent will be closed,” Mayor Vince Barra said, referring to Myrtle Avenue and to West Crescent Avenue, which runs past Allendale Borough Hall. “We are shooting for, and hoping for, an August construction.” The long-awaited construction work will include a traffic light at the Myrtle and West Crescent intersection. Bergen County announced that the contract would be bid at the same time that a different contract for road work on Brookside Avenue and Donnybrook Road. Both of these roads, like West Crescent Avenue, are important access roads to the Brookside and Hillside Schools in Allendale and to Northern Highlands Regional High School. “The (West Crescent-Myrtle) intersection must be completed within 90 days,” said Councilwoman Elizabeth White. “Our hope is that the majority of the intersection will be completed in the first 30 days. They know this is the main thoroughfare for all the schools.” The good news, Mayor Barra said, is that Bergen County will bear the full cost of the construction, including the traffic light. The bad news, White said, is that once Joan Underwood will retire after working in Allendale’s Brookside School’s front office for 17 years. She worked as a flight attendant for 25 years before taking the job at Brookside to be available to her children, James and Catie.
