The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary has donated four Garmin GPS units to the department. The units will be installed in each of the department’s trucks and in the assistant chief’s first-response vehicle. Auxiliary President Arline Dench and Vice President Leann Surz presented the GPS units to Fire Department President Chris Joy Sr. and Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Chief Chris Raimondi. According to Chief Raimondi, the GPS technology will be particularly useful in navigating the streets of surrounding Bergen County towns when responding to mutual aid calls. The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department is part of the region’s mutual aid system, whcih is comprised of 14 towns and fire departments that back up one another during major alarms. The Ho-Ho-Kus Ladies’ Auxiliary supports the fire department and local philanthropic endeavors. Earlier this year, the auxiliary donated a pulse oximeter to the borough’s volunteer ambulance corps to help EMTs monitor patients’ blood-oxygen levels. The group also annually awards two scholarships to deserving borough residents who are heading off to college. The auxiliary hosts fundraisers throughout the year, including its popular Beefsteak Dinner, which is held each spring.
