Six Troop 59 Boy Scouts attain Eagle status
Clark is a recent graduate of Northern Highlands Regional High School. He was a member of the marching band for four years, and spent a year as drum major, leading the band to a state championship. He was also a jumper for the varsity winter and spring track teams, and won the MidAtlantic Championship for high school a cappella singing as a member of the Highlands Voices. He is a member of Guardian Angel Church and is a volunteer emergency medical technician with the Allendale Ambulance Corps. For his service project, Clark built a rosary walkway around the pond and garden next to the Guardian Angel Church rectory and restored the pond, altar, and garden. The rosary walkway consists of a stone cross, and enough stepping stones for parishioners to recite each prayer of the rosary as they use the walkway. The stones differ in size to signify the prayer to be said. Dworkin just completed his junior year at Northern Highlands, where he is a member of the basketball and lacrosse teams. He also belongs to the DECA Club and serves as a student ambassador for his school. In his free time, Dworkin is a counselor for ALEOOP, and teaches tennis to autistic children as a Project Love Match volunteer. He is also a basketball referee and a Crestwood Lake life guard. Dworkin’s service project involved the construction of a garden pergola at Spectrum for Living, a special needs adult day

care facility in Westwood. Iannacone, a June graduate of Northern Highlands, will attend Rutgers University this fall. He plans to pursue biomedical engineering. At Highlands, he was a member of the marching band, and belonged to the fencing and track teams. His service project involved a contribution to his future alma mater: Iannacone designed and built a commercial grade retail stand for the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center at Rutgers. The center serves students from three through 21 who have autism and developmental disabilities. The center runs regular sales of baked goods to prepare students for future employment, and had been using a folding table for this project. The new retail stand is a sturdy alternative that includes storage units and a cash drawer. Macksoud’s Eagle project took nearly 15 months to complete. He began by building two raised garden boxes for Spectrum for Living. However, the project evolved, and Macksoud ultimately took on building two wheeled, elevated garden boxes for Spectrum homes located in Glen Rock and Elmwood Park. Merkovsky is a 2012 graduate of Northern Highlands, where he received two varsity letters as a member of the cross country team. He also played tennis on the junior varsity team for two years. He is an active member of the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen Ministry in Harlem, New (continued on page 21)
