She was a 1938 graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo, New York and a 1942 graduate of Cornell University, where she was lifelong member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and was Marie Catania Joyce M. DeCanio selected to attend the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Children and Family Development in Michigan. She had been a pre-school education teacher at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood and at Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff. She had been a member of the Ski Club of New Jersey. She is survived by her daughter and son-inlaw, Patricia and Richard Haynes in Moretown, Vermont, grandchildren Patrick M. Haynes of Burlington Vermont and Thomas L. Haynes of Moretown, Vermont, and her sister Esther M. Prudden of Lockport, New York. She was predeceased by her husband DeWitt Castle Kiligas, and her siblings Donald B. Dillenbeck, Harold A. She had been a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, New York, and the Church of the Holy Eucharist in Southampton. She was born in Teufen, Canton Appenzell, Switzerland. She assisted her husband, Zenon Schreiber, a noted landscape designer, in his business. She was active for many years on the Paramus Conservation Commission. She is survived by her children, Nadia Smith of Ferrisburgh, Vermont and Edwin Schreiber of Zurich, Switzerland, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh in Ridgewood. Allendale Notebook Car Wash at Calvary The Hi School Youth Group from Calvary Lutheran Church will hold a Car Wash fundraiser on June 16. Members of the community are welcome to have their vehicles washed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 165 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Proceeds will help defray the cost of this summer’s trip to the National Youth Gathering of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in New Orleans, Louisiana. Four students are planning to attend the “Citizens with the Saints.” The 36,000 participants who are expected at this event will help New Orleans continue to recover from Hurricane Katrina. Restaurant hosts Hospice Week Benefit Louie’s Place, located at 29 West Allendale Avenue in Allendale, will host “Community Hospice Week” June 11 through 17. Supporters who dine at Louie’s Place are asked to present a coupon and the restaurant will donate 10 percent of each bill, excluding tax and gratuity, to Community Hospice of Bergen County. Church hosts annual carnival The 18 Annual Guardian Angel Carnival will be held June 14 through 17 at the church located at 320 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. Highlights of this year’s event will be games, a cash prize contest, and a variety of rides for both young and older participants. New to the carnival will be a Food Garden where attendees may enjoy a dish of pasta, heroes (sausage & peppers or meatball), and other items prepared by parishioners.
