This pair of red-shouldered hawks fledged this spring in the Borough of Allendale. The red-shouldered hawk is an endangered nesting species in the State of New Jersey, making it notable that these raptors have returned to Allendale to nest for several years. These individuals are the young of ‘Laura,’ a red-shouldered hawk that was injured several years ago, and was successfully rehabilitated at the Raptor Trust in Millington. After her stay at the Raptor Trust, Laura was released at the Celery Farm Natural Area, where she reunited with her mate. (Photo courtesy of Dr. Kumar Patel.)
