Rosendahl becomes police department’s newest officer
by John Koster Last week, Allendale Mayor Vince Barra administered the oath of office to former dispatcher Dan Rosendahl, the second of two police officers added to the borough’s force in recent weeks. “I can’t tell you how thrilled we are to have two exemplary and qualified new men on the police force,” Mayor Barra said just before he administered the oath at the July 12 council meeting. The Allendale Police Department now has seven patrolmen on regular shifts, as well as the two new officers -- Rosendahl and Patrolman Vince Rizzo -- two sergeants, a detective, and Police Chief George Scherb, who was present at the ceremony last week. Sergeant Todd Griffith was also present. Rosendahl, a former Allendale dispatcher and a graduate of Ramapo College, most recently worked as a claims adjuster for an insurance firm. He said the quality of the borough and people drew him back to Allendale and that he was delighted to be back working with the department. He will begin his training at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute on July 27. Mahwah Police Officer Robert Loveman, Rosendahl’s uncle, held the Bible for Rosendahl as he took the oath. About 20 relatives, friends, and police officers came to the meeting to celebrate the new officer’s posting. Patrolman Vince Rizzo, who took the oath at a previous meeting, is an experienced officer with the Port Authority Police and was able to begin active patrol work in Allendale as an officer in training with a department supervisor immediately upon his official acceptance. A tangentially related item was the introduction of the new police salary ordinance for adoption after discussion at the next public meeting on July 26. As introduced, the ordinance provides a starting salary of $35,000 for officers during their first year of employment after Dec. 31, 2011. The new officers will receive $44,571 for the second
