Pizzarelli to perform John Paul “Bucky” Pizzarelli, a life-long North Jersey resident and accomplished jazz guitarist, will perform a concert highlighting his personal style on Wednesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. at The Allendale Community for Mature Living. Pizzarelli will be accompanied by guitarist Ed Laub. A Saddle River resident, Pizzarelli will demonstrate his mastery of the seven-string guitar as he plays jazz, swing, and big band favorites at the free performance, which is open to the general public. Pizzarelli, who grew up in Paterson, began his professional career at 17 before enlisting in the Army. In 1952, he joined NBC as a staff musician and played with Skitch Henderson. Twelve years later, he became a member of the Doc Severinsen band on “The Tonight Show” starring Johnny Carson, where he accompanied guest bands and
musicians, including Tiny Tim. Pizzarelli also toured with Benny Goodman, played on seven hits with Dion and the Belmonts, and performed for two presidents and at a private party for former first lady Pat Nixon. He is a member of the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame and New Jersey Hall of Fame, and has received the Mac Lifetime Achievement Award. The concert will be held in The Atrium Lobby, 85 Harreton Road. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are required. Refreshments will be served. To register, call (201) 825-0660, extension 7997.
