Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • January 25, 2012 Waldwick The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce will not hold Waldwick Day this year so as to concentrate on the popular 5K Run and 1Mile Walk. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 6 starting from the Waldwick High School track. This is the fifth year the Run is being held, and the chamber wants to put all its effort behind the undertaking, including growing it to attract more than 500 runners. Last year 485 runners and walkers entered the event; 40 percent of the runners were Waldwick residents. The race started with only 147 runners in 2008, doubling participation to 300 the following year. The event is USTF-NJ certified and holds Grand Prix status. “There is nothing much that compares to our race,” said race Director Stan Kowalksi. “It’s a great, varied, interesting course. And we have massage tables, great goody bags and live music. You can enjoy yourself as a spectator,” he added. “Our course is very scenic,” said Silvio Manziano, a marathon runner who is helping Kowalski with the race (continued on page 21) Chamber to focus on 5K run; Waldwick Day put off Assistant Borough Administrator Jordan Battisti, left, accepts a check on behalf of the Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department from Chamber of Commerce President Christine Figliuolo.
