AFEE plans annual fundraiser The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence will host its 17th Annual Auction fundraiser on Friday, March 9 at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club. This year’s event, which has a “Hollywood Night of 1,000 Stars” theme, will include mystery board prizes, prize baskets, a cash prize contest, and an auction. All proceeds directly benefit enrichment programs and innovative technology for Allendale’s public schools. Tickets are $75 per person, and include dinner and beverages. Fashion Show donations sought The Allendale Woman’s Club is seeking sponsors and prize donations for its Fashion Fix Up fundraiser set for April 4 at Seasons in Washington Township. The show will benefit Rebuilding Together Bergen County and other local charities. Over the past 12 years, Rebuilding Together Bergen County has worked in 45 Bergen County towns and assisted 206 families including seniors, veterans, the disabled, and families with children remain in their homes. Rebuilding Together helps by assisting with repairs and renovations people would not have the means or ability to do on their own. The deadline for donations and sponsors is Jan. 30. Republican council candidates sought Two borough council seats will be available this year, and candidates for the June primary election are now being sought. Prospective candidates for the Allendale Borough Council may apply for the endorsement of the Allendale Republican Organization by contacting Bob Pash before Feb. 22. Interested candidates should provide a brief biography and statement as to their interest and qualifications for a council seat.
The Allendale Republican Policy Committee is responsible for making recommendations for party endorsement of borough council candidates and for recommendations when vacancies arise. All applicants must be registered Republicans in order to be considered in the annual convention of the Allendale Republican Organization prior to the primary filing date. A Cappella Semifinals come to Highlands Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale will be the site of the ICHA A Cappella Mid-Atlantic High School Semifinals on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. Highlands Voices will be one of 10 eastern state schools competing in the event. As the 2011 winners of the MidAtlantic Semifinal, Northern Highlands Voices earned the privilege of hosting this year’s competition at the high school located at 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Participants include The Maroon Men, Ridgewood High School, Ridgewood; Dobbs 16, The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, New York; The Edgertones, The Hun School of Princeton, Princeton; Insongniacs, Mardela Middle and High School, Mardela Springs, Maryland; InToneNation, Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, Maryland; The Noxontones, Saint Andrew’s School, Middletown, Delaware; PACapellas, Mahopac High School, Mahopac, New York; Rhythm On Rye, Rye High School, Rye, New York; and Vocal Forte, Haddon Heights Baptist Regional School, Haddon Heights. The winner will advance to the finals of the ICHSA High School A Cappella Tournament at Hunter College in New York City on April 27. The competition will also feature special guests The Deaftones from Westminster Choir College and 4Gotten SuitCase from Ramapo College. Beethoven series to begin Allendale resident Louis Hinchliffe will present a program on the life and music of Ludwig von Beethoven at Calvary Lutheran Church in Allendale on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. Internationally-known pianist Albert Stanziano will
perform several of Beethoven’s masterpieces. Stanziano’s appearances have included Steinway Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the National Arts Club, Merkin Hall, and at the Military Academy at West Point. This event is the first in a series of three presentations about Beethoven. The next programs will be held on Feb. 12 and March 25. Tickets for each event are $10 per person. A limited number of tickets are now available. Tickets must be purchased in advance and picked up before the day of the concert. Auxiliary schedules fundraiser The Allendale Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Wine Tasting on Jan. 29 at Park and Orchard Restaurant in East Rutherford. Proceeds will benefit the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine at The Valley Hospital and Valley Home Care’s Maternal Child Health, a program that focuses on children who require complex health care services. The tasting will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. and will include an assortment of wines and samplings from the Park and Orchard kitchen. Tickets are $60 per person, payable to VHA-Allendale.
