Ho-Ho-Kus
The Ho-Ho-Kus Education Foundation’s Annual Dinner Dance and Auction will be held Feb. 11 at the Park Ridge Marriott. The theme for this year’s gala is “The Places You’ll Go.” This event is the foundation’s primary fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds from the auction fund a variety of teacher requested grants that directly impact the educational experience for all children attending the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. The evening features auctions, wonderful food, an open bar, music, and dancing. Tickets are $125. The evening is a great opportunity for local businesses to sponsor the Ho-Ho-Kus School through ads and donations. All contributions are taxdeductible. The Ho-Ho-Kus Education Foundation was founded in 1992 and is managed by an independent board of trustees comprised of parent volunteers and members of the

school administration. Twice a year, the trustees evaluate grant requests, which are sponsored by a teacher or group of teachers in support of school-wide initiatives. Over the years, the foundation has awarded nearly $1 million in grants. Grants are allocated to programs and technologies, which are deemed to enhance the educational experience of all students across all grade levels and learning abilities. Past grants have funded Smartboards, Career Technology Lab, TV Studio, Lego Robotics, StarLab, a Shakespeare program, a new “Laptop Lab,” and many other programs that otherwise would not have been funded. Recently, the foundation approved a grant to create an outdoor classroom in the courtyard, along with various technology labs. Kelly Merrill was recently named the school-level champion in the National Geography Bee held at Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. James Ding was the first runner-up. Kelly will now compete at the state level by taking the National Geographic Society written exam.
