Waldwick January 18, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 The Waldwick Board of Education last week hired the architectural firm of Di Cara/Rubino of Wayne to develop an energy efficiency program for the school district. The work will include assisting the district with the preparation of a Local Government Energy Audit (LGEA) and with the LGEA grant application. The contract calls for Di Cara/Rubino to receive $5,000 for the preparation of materials needed for the energy audit and $20,000 for the preliminary work on the Energy Savings Improvement Plan (ESIP). Using the state’s ESIP process, the district can take advantage of energy efficiency measures without the need for a referendum. The district would use tax exempt energy savings obligation bonds to pay for any energy improvements made. The bonds would be paid back from the measured energy savings. The savings are verified by a third party measurement and verification program. Once the energy audit is completed, the architectural firm will prepare a preliminary economic analysis of the ESIP program. The analysis will include annual energy cost savings, operations and maintenance savings, avoided capital costs, estimated revenues from the energy capacity District to pursue energy efficiencies; hires architect markets, capital costs, rebates, financing and program related costs. The economics apply project related costs (energy savings obligation, annual measurement and verification, professional fees, energy savings and insurance guarantees) against all revenues (energy and operational savings and estimated energy capacity market revenues) on an annualized basis to reflect positive cash flow. A separate analysis for additional photovoltaic solar panels will also be included. The audit checks into such measures as lighting and occupancy sensors, direct digital controls, boiler upgrades, domestic hot water heaters, rooftop unit replacements, unit ventilators, weatherization itmes, roof insulation, kitchen equipment, chillers, demand control ventilation, clean renewable energy and solar power. The Energy Savings Plan would include overall quantifiable goals from implementing “green” initiatives which will reduce energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, install in key facilities alternate energy sources and energy savings improvements that will reduce energy usage and energy costs, and will be capable of offsetting the cost of energy improvements from energy cost savings. 5K contribution The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce is making a number of donations to community organizations from the proceeds of last May’s 5K Run. In all 485 participants entered the annual event, which in 2012 is scheduled for Sunday, May 6. Kowalski said he hopes to exceed the 500 mark this year.
