Crawford to discuss ‘Curb Appeal’ Bruce Crawford, director of the Rutgers Garden and an adjunct professor in landscape architecture at Rutgers University, will discuss “curb appeal” at the Ho-Ho-Kus Garden Club’s 7:30 p.m. meeting on Jan. 23. The speaker will cover how to enhance the architecture of a home. The program will be held at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall located at 333 Warren Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. Kindergarten registration to begin Kindergarten registration for 2012-13 will take place at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, 70 Lloyd Road in Ho-HoKus, on Thursday, Jan. 19. Registrations will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school library. Incoming kindergartners must be five years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2012. Parents or guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate and two proofs of residency. Acceptable proofs of residency include a copy of a deed or fully executed lease and a copy of current utility bill. For more information, call (201) 652-4555. Rosin presents program of Valentines Nancy Rosin, president of the National Valentine Collector Association, will present a discussion of vintage valentines that date back six centuries to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Feb. 28. Rosin’s collection includes over 10,000 cards. The seniors meet at the Education Center of the Hermitage located at 355 North Franklin Turnpike. For program information, contact Joan at (201) 444- 4896. ‘Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus’ for sale The Contemporary Cub of Ho-Ho-Kus is offering its “Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus” cookbook for $20. This edition is a revision of the 1975 “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” cookbook. The updated version contains favorite recipes, some of which are over 100 years old, from residents, past and present U.S. Presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and French. Children may also borrow “Speak Spanish with Dora and Diego.” Soon to be available for borrowing will be “Shmoop,” a computer-based tutorial for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or AP exams. Police offer announcements via Twitter The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department is now featuring special announcements that will be available to the public via Twitter. The link to Twitter may be found on the department’s website, www.ho-ho-kuspolice.com. Messages will cover various non-emergency situations, such as road closings and delayed school openings. Emergency information and other situations that affect the community will still be disseminated via Reverse 911.
