Local artist to exhibit at library The art of Jennifer J. Shaw Merz, a longtime resident of Allendale, is on display at the Waldwick Library. The exhibit will remain open through Wednesday, Feb. 29. Merz is a children’s book writer and illustrator whose art encompasses cutand-torn paper collage, oil painting, and pencil drawings. Featured in the exhibit are 20 pieces that reveal the artist’s fascination with the nature of the series: she presents tight pencil renderings of musical instruments (Etude Series), graphically depicted oil paintings of fruit (Fruit Series), and studies of furniture (Chair Jennifer J. Shaw Merz Series), also in oil. The artist holds a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Marymount College, and a master’s in art education from the College of New Rochelle. She is currently pursuing a master of fine arts in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the Authors’ Guild, and the Graphic Artists’ Guild.
