Rebuilding Together Bergen County is a non-profit organization committed to providing critical repairs to the homes of low-income Americans, including senior citizens, veterans, the disabled, and those displaced by natural disasters. The Allendale Woman’s Club has an active Homelife Committee dedicated to assisting friends and neighbors in times of need. True to their style of combining fun and friendship to serve the community, the club looks forward to building a fashion show that will help Rebuilding Together make a difference in local neighborhoods. “It’s a perfect opportunity for women to have a great night out while they’re showing support for a cause that revolves around a basic human need,” said Event Co-chair Lynn Novak. “Women especially understand how a safe home is more than just a shelter. We’re looking forward to putting the spotlight on Rebuilding Together Bergen County as we put together our spring fashion show.” Fashion Sub-committee Chairs Kristen Tsarnas and Maria Djuric are thrilled to gain the support of local Allendale shop owners Terri Shedler of BackSwing Sporty Boutique and Victoria Digiulio of Bliss Bridal Boutique and Special Occasion in creating the runway show. “It’s truly a case of neighbor helping neighbor. We are excited to be able to bring attention to these fabulous shops both located right here on West Allendale Avenue,” said Tsarnas. Rebuilding Together Bergen County will receive 50 percent of the proceeds, with the remaining funds to be designated to other local charities and organizations. The Allendale Woman’s Club has announced that Rebuilding Together Bergen County will be the primary beneficiary of the spring fashion show fundraiser: Fashion Fix-Up. The popular annual event will take place on Wednesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. The evening will feature a lavish cocktail reception and gourmet dinner, gift basket giveaways, and a fashion show presented by BackSwing Sporty Boutique and Bliss Bridal Boutique and Special Occasion, both Allendale Council (continued from page 4) Wilczynski was warmly welcomed to her second term. Mayor Barra noted that ,while she had seemed somewhat reticent the beginning of her first term, she had quickly grown into the role. “She has really grown into the job and has become a big asset to this council,” he said. Councilman Ari Bernstein nominated Jim Strauch as council president. “What did I ever do to you?” Strauch retorted dryly. The hard-working Strauch – a former chairman of the Allendale Board of Adjustment before his election to the council – also accepted his appointment to the Allendale Planning Board at the same meeting. The only real surprise at the reorganization meeting came as retired Councilman Robert Schoepflin was called out of the audience. “I only came for Jackie,” he protested, meaning McSwiggan’s oath of office. Schoepflin was asked to sit next to Mayor Barra briefly for old time’s sake. Schoepflin, who had served five full terms on the Allendale Borough Council, the last five as council president or deputy mayor, had been extolled for his service at an end-of-year meeting the previous week. The council voted to name one of the paths in the Crestwood Lake Park complex “Bob Schoepflin Way” and members once again praised the long-term incumbent for his long service to the community. Alissa Mayer was reappointed as chief financial officer. Joanne Hart and Doug Jones were appointed to four-year terms on the board of adjustment. Mike Limatola and Jim Wright were appointed Celery Farm marsh wardens for 2012, and Carol Sheehan and Bruce Rohsler were appointed to the Shade Tree Commission for four-year terms.
