Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • February 29, 2012 Waldwick Massage Envy Spa will be the presenting sponsor once again this year for the Waldwick 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, scheduled for Sunday, May 6. The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the popular event, hopes to make the 2012 Run the best yet in celebration of the event’s fifth anniversary. Director Stan Kowalski hopes to attract more than 500 participants, a goal almost reached last year. The certified course has been sanctioned as a USATF Grand Prix event, which assures even greater participation from serious runners, according to Kowalski. “This is our second year as presenting sponsor for the Waldwick 5K run, and it coincides with our second year as Massage Envy in Waldwick,” said Massage Envy Massage Envy to be presenting sponsor for 5K Waldwick Franchisee Sol Glastein. “We are proud to be the presenting sponsor and to recognize all the good work that our Chamber does all year long. A lot of people work very hard to make this happen, and it gets better every year. The proceeds are used for very worthwhile causes in our community and we feel it is important to contribute to that as well. “By the way, it is no secret that an active and healthy lifestyle combined with regular therapeutic massage and a healthy skin care facial is a great way to maintain your health and wellness program. So partnering for this event, and with our local Chamber, is a natural.” Located at 26 Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick, Massage Envy provides professional services at affordable prices. A voluntary, confidential survey of Waldwick’s senior citizens is currently under way. The effort aims to allow borough officials to create a database of residents who need assistance when emergencies arise. “We have a lot of seniors in the community, and we want to make them feel safe,” said Waldwick Mayor Tom Giordano, who initiated the survey. Mayor Giordano has been promoting the effort by meeting with the members of various senior-oriented organizations, such as the Golden Club and the Tamaron Association. Public Health Nurse Carol Shepard and Waldwick Office of Emergency Management Coordinator James O’Connell worked on the questionnaire. In addition to basic contact information, the survey asks if the respondent is diabetic, uses an oxygen tank or medical equipment that requires power, and whether the respondent has a disability, or needs to use a walker, cane, Survey aims to aid local seniors or wheelchair. The questionnaire also requests information regarding the location of bedrooms that are being used within the respondent’s home, and whether a neighbor has a key to the house. The survey expressly states that the information provided by respondents will be kept confidential and will be placed in the Waldwick Police Department’s computer system to be used for emergency purposes only. Shepard said the survey is “anticipatory,” and will allow residents who respond to the questionnaire to avoid crises in situations such as the multi-day power outage that followed Hurricane Irene in the summer of 2011. Surveys are available at the borough clerk’s office at the Waldwick Administration Building at 63 Franklin Turnpike and at Shepard’s office at 22 Whites Lane. Call borough hall at (201) 652-5300 or Shepard at (201) 444-3914 for more information. Massage Envy’s professionally trained massage therapists meet state and local licensing requirements, and continually update their education to maintain their certifications. Therapists are trained in various modalities of massage, including Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, sports, prenatal, geriatric, cranial sacral and reflexology. “We are so excited for this year’s Fifth Annual 5K Run/1 Mile Walk, which will take place at the Waldwick High School turf field on Sunday, May 6,” said Waldwick Chamber of Commerce President Christine Figliuolo. “We truly have an amazing team of dedicated people working with us, plus the mayor and council and town support organizations are behind us 110 percent. We are so pleased to have Massage Envy Spa back as out presenting sponsor. This event is not only heart-healthy, but it also helps the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce raise funds and promote our membership so that, together, we can give back to the community.” Kowalski has been in charge of the Waldwick event since its inception. He is a seasoned runner who has completed more than 120 races from Boston to Washington, D.C., including the New York City Marathon and the 26mile Jersey Shore Relay. “The run is a little more than two months away and everyone in town is excited about this event. Local heart charities and volunteer organizations will benefit from proceeds,” Kowalski said. “We will have the live band, J.P. Harmon & Musings, and a few DJs at the finish line. The whole community is involved from the mayor and council to senior citizens and students.” Additional sponsorships are welcome in all categories, including platinum ($2,000), gold ($500), silver ($250), and bronze ($100). Sponsor recruitment is under the direction of Executive Secretary Kim Post. The sponsorship deadline is March 6; call (201) 693-6734 for more information.
