Inserra and family to be honored by West Bergen

This symbol of excellence, which is given each year to exceptional community leaders, will be presented to Inserra and his family at West Bergen’s 35th Annual Brunch on Sunday, April 1. The event will be held at noon at Seasons in Washington Township. In announcing the selection, Quentin W. Wiest, president of the West Bergen Board of Trustees, said, “I am pleased to join with my fellow board members in congratulating Larry and his family on this prestigious award. As a family, they exemplify all of the qualities that West Bergen values. Over the years, they have supported many worthy causes and West Bergen is one of the fortunate organizations to benefit from their generous spirit and devotion to others. I know that the entire West Bergen Family joins me in congratulating Larry and his family and we are all looking forward to a wonderful brunch on April 1.” Lawrence R. Inserra Jr. is president of Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., one of the largest supermarket chains in the metropolitan area, which operates ShopRite stores throughout New Jersey and New York. Inserra Supermarkets was founded in 1954, and the first store was located in Lyndhurst. Today, Inserra Supermarkets operates a total of 22 stores. “Proud to be a family business serving families,” the Inserra family stores have become an integral part of the fabric of each of the communities in which they are located. He is a member of the board of directors of the Wakefern Food Corporation, the Greater Alliance Federal Credit Union, the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, the Hackensack University Medical Center, the Hackensack Economic Development Commission, and the Mahwah Schools Foundation. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Community Resource Council, the Community Blood Services Foundation, and the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation. He was born in Newark and raised in Rutherford. He graduated from Saint Joseph Regional High School in 1975. While attending high school, he worked in the family ShopRite business. He then attended Lehigh University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics. He has two children, Lindsey, 27, and Lawrence, 26. Reservations for the brunch are $80 per person.
