March of the Warrior benefit set The eighth grade Class of 2012 at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School will host its March of the Warrior benefit on March 8 at 5:30 p.m. The students will form two co-ed basketball teams that will meet in “battle.” After the game, the students will serve a pasta dinner to spectators. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased outside the school at 3 p.m. on March 5. The school is located at 70 Lloyd Road. Bedtime Story Time set The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, located at 91 Warren Avenue in Ho-HoKus, invites children to a Bedtime Story Time on Thursday, March 8 from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Attendees may come in their pajamas and bring a special toy or blanket. Donations sought for ECLC benefit ECLC of New Jersey is seeking donations of prizes and ads for the event journal for its Annual Dinner and Prize Basket Fundraiser, which will be held March 29 at The Tides in North Haledon. ECLC of NJ is a non-profit organization serving children and adults with moderate to severe intellectual and developmental disabilities including spectrum disorders, autism, Down syndrome, and complicated medical issues. The school is located at 302 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-HoKus (the former Saint Luke’s School), and serves approximately 100 children. This edition is a revision of the 1975 “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” cookbook. The updated version contains favorite recipes, some of which are over 100 years old, from residents, past and present U.S. Presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Learn about valentines Nancy Rosin, president of the National Valentine Collector Association, will present a discussion of vintage valentines that date back six centuries to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Feb. 28. Rosin’s collection includes over 10,000 cards. The seniors meet at the Education Center of the Hermitage located at 355 North Franklin Turnpike. Girls State alumnae speak
Four local women gave a presentation about their experiences at Girls State, a program in which participants get hands on experience about how the democratic process works. The speakers’ visit was sponsored by American Legion Post 53 (Ridgewood/ Ho-Ho-Kus) and the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 57 (Waldwick). Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and
French. Children may also borrow “Speak Spanish with Dora and Diego.” Soon to be available for borrowing will be “Shmoop,” a computer-based tutorial for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or AP exams. Police offer Twitter announcements The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department is now featuring special announcements that will be available to the public via Twitter. The link to Twitter may be found on the department’s website, www.ho-ho-kuspolice.com. Messages will cover various nonemergency situations, such as road closings and delayed school openings. Emergency information and other situations that affect the community will still be disseminated via Reverse 911.
