Thomas Gilbert of Midland Park died Feb. 3. He was 59. He worked at Henry Brothers Electronics in Paramus, and then at his own company, Casey Associates. He also did work for RCC Consultants, BearCom, VISCOM Electronics at Kennedy Airport, Eventide, Mikab, and Honeywell in Boston. He was a ham radio operator (WA2CAI), and a licensed pilot. He was a first lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol. In 2004, he was awarded the Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager Aerospace Education Achievement Award. He joined New Jersey Search and Rescue, and was a member of the radio clubs FLARC and BARA. He is survived by his wife Sandra Christina Schultze, his children Frederika and Jean-Luc Gilbert, his sisters Kathleen and Aileen, and two nephews. Carmella “Connie” Gritt, nee Staropoli, of Ramsey died Feb. 14. She was 88. She is survived by her daughter Vivian Pope of Ramsey, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and her siblings Anthony Staropoli, Lillian Staropoli, and Josephine Phillips, all of Montvale. She was predeceased by her husband William Gritt, and her son Anthony Gritt. Arrangements were made by Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc. in Park Ridge. Carole Mason, nee Eshmont, of Midland Park, formerly of Ridgewood, died Feb. 9. She was 71. She had been the owner of Stonecroft Interior Design in Midland Park. She is survived by her children Brad of Ridgewood and Vanessa Neuenhaus of Ramsey, and seven grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack NJ 07601. Allan J. Parker of Ho-Ho-Kus, formerly of Ridgewood, died Feb. 11. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was a partner in the law firm of Shea & Gould in New York for approximately three decades until the firm dissolved in 1994. Previously, he served as an associate in the New York law firms of Shearman & Sterling and Simpson, and Thacher & Bartlett. He was a member of the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, where he served as a member of the consistory as a deacon and a church elder. He taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, and was a member of the church’s chancel and handbell choirs. He was a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Class of 1945. He earned a law degree from Columbia University, and earned a master’s degree in taxation from New York University Law School. A charter member of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, he was the lone Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra member to play in both the orchestra’s inaugural concert in 1940 and its 70th Anniversary concert. Glen Rock Pops and the Waldwick Band. He served as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 254 in Ho-Ho-Kus in the 1960s. He is survived by his wife Constance Tabor Parker of Ho-Ho-Kus, his children Heather McCarty of Monrovia, Maryland, Jennifer O’Ferrell of Maurertown, Virginia, Douglas of Ramsey, Randall of Summit, Daniel of Teaneck, and Clyde of North Arlington, his stepdaughter Constance Parker Fotakis of Winthrop, Maine, six grandchildren, and his twin brother David of Larchmont, New York and Lords Valley, Pennsylvania. Grace Roskam of Midland Park died Feb. 14. She was 99. Before retiring, she was a loom operator for Montabert Co. of Midland Park for many years. She was a member of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Edward J. Van Duzer of Wyckoff died Feb. 9. He was 70. He was a musician and an accordionist, who recorded and released the hit song “Big Mouth,” which was played across the region on radio stations. He was the leader of the Eddie Vann Trio. He was the owner and operator of Evan Transportation in Midland Park and Oakland, for many years. He was a member of the Pacemakers Car Club of Midland Park. He was a devoted member of the WyckoffMidland Park Rotary Club, and later the Oakland-Franklin Lakes Club. He was honored by Rotary International with a number of awards, including the Walter D. Head Foundation Award, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of directors of West Bergen Mental Healthcare. He was an active member of the Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, where he served as both a deacon and an elder, and was a member of the choir and the Music and Worship Committee. He was a member of the Holland Society of New York and the past president of the Old Bergen Branch. He is survived by his wife Carla (nee Brandt) Van Duzer of Wyckoff, his children Kimberly Chatzilias and Thomas Edward, two grandchildren, and his brother James of Wyckoff. Nancy Barr Vermylen of Saddle River and Shoreham, New York, died Feb. 11. She was 91. She was an alumna of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New York (1938) and Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University, 1942). She was a past president of the board of Cerebral Palsy Center of Bergen County, and volunteered for the
Valley Hospital Auxiliary and at The Forum School in Waldwick. She was a parishioner of Saint Gabriel’s Church in Saddle River where she was a Eucharistic minister. She is survived by her husband Paul Anthony Vermylen, her children Paul Jr., Jay, Peter, David, Jessica Vermylen Fiddes, Robert, and Mark, 21 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Margaret “Peggy” Wedemeier of Waldwick died Feb. 11. She was 87. She worked at B. Altman & Co. for many years, and retired from Hudson City Savings Bank. She was a member of the Waldwick Woman’s Club and of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is survived by her daughters Carol Warren, Coreen Messina, Dianne Effertz, and Arleen Hlavaty, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her nephew Bill Singleton. He was a graduate of Ridgewood High School Class of 1947. He was a member of The Classic Car Club, and a founding member of The Lincoln Continental Owners Club and The Lincoln Zephyr Club. He is survived by his wife Jean (nee Lampe) Willson of Waldwick, his children Paul B. Willson III of Waldwick, and Holly Norton of Allendale, and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by C.C. Dorothea Zotos of Toms River, formerly of Weehawken and Waldwick, died Feb. 9. She was 82. She was born in the northern Epirus region of Greece. She was active in the New Jersey Greek Orthodox Church communities, singing in the choir, fundraising with the Philoptochos, working at Greek festivals, and Kali Parea. She was a volunteer with Project Linus, a non-profit enterprise that provides crocheted baby blankets to hospitals. She is survived by her children Harriet and Fred Callis of Atlantic Highlands, Joanne and Sean Diver of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and Mike and Lynn Ballai of Kinnelon, and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Timoleon, and her daughter Melanie Ballai. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff.
