February 15, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 23 Allendale Notebook Garden clubs hold joint meeting The Ho-Ho-Kus Garden Club will join the Allendale Garden Club on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Brighton Gardens, 5 Boroline Road in Saddle River. Guest speaker Guy Jones, owner of Blooming Hill Farms, will offer a discussion on organic gardening. Ramapo announces Dean’s List Ramapo College of New Jersey has named the following Allendale students to the Dean’s List for the fall 2011 semester: Steven N. Casella, Terence J. Ma, Sarah E. Galo, and Ava E. Manahan. Integrated pre school program host Open House The Allendale School District will continue to host an Integrated Preschool (IPS) Program for the 2012-2013 school year. Parents interested in learning more about the IPS program may attend an Open House at Hillside School on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 1:15 to 2 p.m. There will be an opportunity to meet the staff and experience the classroom setting. The Integrated Preschool Program differs from other preschools in that it incorporates the education of general education preschoolers with preschoolers with special needs. The teacher of an IPS program is certified in both general and special education. Students with special needs are placed in the program through an evaluation process performed by the Office of Special Services. The Allendale Public School District will offer two levels of IPS programming. There will be a three year-old program from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Students for this program must be three years old by Oct. 1, 2012. The program for four year olds will meet from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Students for this program must be four years old by Oct. 1, 2012. All children in the program will attend five half days per week. Class size is expected to be held at a maximum of 12 students per program, to include both general and special education students, therefore we anticipate limited openings. Children must be toilet trained. Tuition for general education children is $3200 for the 10 month IPS program. Applications for general education students, available after the Open House, may be found at www.allendaleschoolsnj.com. Deadline for submission is 3 p.m. on March 23. Students will be determined by lottery if the number of applications exceeds the available spaces. Parents will be notified of acceptance into the IPS Programs by March 30. Transportation services are not provided to general education students. A birth certificate, copy of immunizations, a medical exam, and proof of Allendale residency will be required of those students admitted to the program. Please note that students enrolled in the 3 Year-Old Program in 2012-13, will be offered first choice for enrollment in the 4 Year-Old Program in 2013-14. Learn about Islam Since 9/11, Americans have been interested in trying to better understand the history and core beliefs of Islam. Dr. Deborah Brown, professor emertia of Asian Studies at Seton Hall University, will offer a lecture on the history and core beliefs of Islam on Thursday, Feb.16 at 7:30 p.m., in the parish hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 George Street in Allendale. Brown’s lecture will cover the origins of Islam and the influence of other religions of the sixth-seventh centuries C. E. in the Arabian Peninsula; basic tenants of the religion, and its future. A question and answer session will follow. Members of the community are welcome to attend.
