Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • February 15, 2012 Waldwick For 27 consecutive years, Andrea Mistretta, a Waldwick artist, illustrator, and designer, has been creating the popular New Orleans Mardi Gras poster series. This year, she teamed with Lucky Player Brands to design its stunning new King Cake Vodka package design, which incorporates her famous Mardi Gras poster art. Mistretta said she recreated the art anamorphically to magnify through the vodka bottle and create the illusion of movement. The artist explained that “King Cake” is a Mardi Gras tradition. This sweet treat is decorated in sugars that reflect the colors associated with the annual celebration: purple, gold, and green. A charm is baked into many cakes, and the person who receives the charm in his or her piece of cake has the honor of hosting the following year’s celebration. As part of this year’s celebration, Mistretta will appear at Robin’s Gallery, 713 Royal Street at Pirate’s Alley in the French Quarter of New Orleans for the extended Mardi Gras weekend, Feb. 18 through 21. She will exhibit her new original canvas paintings and sign her posters and awardwinning book “Mardi Gras Parade of Posters.” To learn more about Mistretta’s art, visit MardiGrasGraphics.com.
