Register for baseball and softball Online registration for the Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Baseball and Softball Association’s 2012 season will continue through Feb. 6. Parents may enroll their children and volunteer as coaches and team parents at www.hhksrbsa. com. The cost of the program is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. There is a $250 per family maximum. Registrations received after the deadline will be subject to availability and a $20 per child late fee. Bedtime Story Time coming up The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, located at 91 Warren Avenue, invites children to Bedtime Story Time on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Attendees are welcome to come in pajamas and bring a favorite toy or blanket. Nursery school holds Open House The Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School, 400 Warren Avenue, will hold its annual Open House Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Feb. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. Parents and their preschoolers are invited to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers and current members. Classes for children ages two through four are available for 2012-13. The nursery school offers various educational enrichment programs including music and Spanish. Extended day options are available. The school offers a co-op opportunity for parents to assist in their child’s classroom. A non-participating co-op status is also available. The Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School is a state-approved, non-profit, and non-sectarian school. For further information, call (201) 445-8424. CPR demonstration slated Staff members from Valley Hospital will demonstrate pediatric and general CPR at the Feb. 7 meeting of the Contemporary Club. The session will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road in Paramus. All members are welcome and may bring a relative or friend. The cost is $40 and may be paid at the door. Cash or checks made payable to The Valley Hospital will be accepted. Rosin presents program of Valentines Nancy Rosin, president of the National Valentine Collector Association, will present a discussion of vintage valentines that date back six centuries to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Feb. 28. Rosin’s collection includes over 10,000 cards. The seniors meet at the Education Center of the Hermitage located at 355 North Franklin Turnpike. “Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus” cookbook for $20. This edition is a revision of the 1975 “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” cookbook. The updated version contains favorite recipes, some of which are over 100 years old, from residents, past and present U.S. Presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Copies are also available at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall, 333 Warren Avenue. ‘Hymn Sings’ open to public Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church invites the public to its Hymn Sing every Thursday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the church located at 70 Sheridan Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and French. Children may also borrow “Speak
Spanish with Dora and Diego.” Soon to be available for borrowing will be “Shmoop,” a computer-based tutorial for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or AP exams. The library is located at 91 Warren Avenue. Call (201) 445-8078. Police offer announcements via Twitter The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department is now featuring special announcements that will be available to the public via Twitter. The link to Twitter may be found on the department’s website, www.ho-ho-kuspolice.com. Messages will cover various non-emergency situations, such as road closings and delayed school openings. Emergency information and other situations that affect the community will still be disseminated via Reverse 911. VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home, 620 Cliff Street, Ho-Ho-Kus. For additional information, call (201) 445-1121. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the Hopper-Zabriskie Cemetery on First Street in Ho-Ho-Kus, prior to 1966. He is the owner of Bjork’s Builders, Ltd. in Midland Park. He and his wife, Carol, have two children. Bjork will serve until the November, 2012 election, at which time he will have to run for the one-year remaining in Giordano’s original three-year term if he wants to remain on the council.
