Cafaro, MA, will present “Assessing Executive Functioning Skills and Transition Planning for College Bound Students with Special Needs” to the parents of children of special needs in Ramsey and Saddle River on Monday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Cafaro, an admissions counselor for the regional center for students with learning disabilities at Fairleigh Dickinson University, is a nationally certified school psychologist and special education teacher. He has co-authored NJ Best Practices on “Transition from High School to College.” He presents programs to parents, students, and child study teams. The cost of the program is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. There is a $250 per family maximum. Registrations received after the deadline will be subject to availability and a $20 per child late fee. Club hosts Wine Pairing Dinner The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host its Wine Pairing Dinner and special auction fundraiser on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. Proceeds will benefit The Center for Food Action. The high-profile event will feature Dan Amatuzzi, wine director of Eataly in New York City and private wine consultant, who will offer tips on unique wine and food pairings. The evening will include a cocktail hour, premium open bar, and a four-course dinner with paired wines. The special auction prizes include a Tuscan Villa for a week, a private tour of Yankee Stadium with a baseball star, or a dinner for 10 prepared at your home by the executive chef from Rao’s. Free health consultations offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Department in conjunction with the Saddle River Board of Health will continue to conduct free adult health consultations for Saddle River residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 10 Wolf Run, Saddle River. The sessions consist of blood pressure, pulse, and weight monitoring. Information including such health concerns as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and a review of medications will also be discussed. All services are provided by a registered nurse. Lions Club recycles eyeglasses For more than 60 years, Lions clubs have been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling. Donated glasses are either given to support local eyeglass recycling efforts or shipped to one of seven official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club has placed “eyeglass collection boxes” through the club area.
