The service will include special Christmas music. All are welcome. The church is hosting its winter collection of coats for friends in need at CUMAC. Open House scheduled The Friends of the Waldwick Library will host a Dec. 18 Open House to recognize and honor Waldwick Library Director Patty Boyd, who will retire this month after serving the community for over a decade. The Open House will be held at the library at 19 East Prospect Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. There will be a brief program at approximately 7:45 p.m. Pet license renewal to begin in January The Borough of Waldwick’s pet license renewal process will begin on Jan. 2, 2013. Applications should not be sent before this date as the borough cannot hold checks for more than a 24-hour period. Applications received before Jan. 2 will be returned. The fee is $16 for a spayed/neutered dog or cat, and $19 for an unaltered pet. Applications are available at www. waldwickpd.org under municipal forms. All licenses and tags will be mailed to the resident’s home. Toys for Tots sought American Legion Post 57, in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps, is collecting new unwrapped toys for tots to teenagers. Toys may be dropped off at the American Legion Post 57, 46 Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick, every evening after 5 p.m. or Sundays after 1 p.m. Donations will be accepted until Dec. 20. WCA announces Wine Tasting The Waldwick Community Alliance will hold its Annual Wine Tasting benefit on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Guardian Angel R.C. Church in Allendale. The event will feature over 100 wines, and craft beers, cheeses, hors d’oeuvres, gourmet chocolates, and prizes. The wine selection will be provided by Maratene’s Fine Wines and Spirits in Waldwick. Tickets are $45 per adult, and may be purchased at waldwickcommunityalliance.org or by calling (201) 873-8919. All of the proceeds and 20 percent of the wine sales from the event will benefit the restoration of the Waldwick Train Station. The WCA is also offering tickets to its Dream Vacation Contest. Kindergarten registration announced Registration for the September 2013 full-day kindergarten program in Waldwick Public Schools will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at Julia A. Traphagen School and at Crescent School. To be eligible for the September 2013 full-day kindergarten class, children must be five on or before Oct. 1, 2013. Parents or guardians must bring the following to registration: a child’s birth certificate or other proof of age, and two documents to prove residency. Acceptable proofs of residency include utility bills with name and address, and a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. Proof of a completed physical and eye examination after Sept. 1, 2012, and written documentation of the month, day, and year of all required immunizations must also be brought to registration. Students entering Waldwick’s full-day kindergarten will be screened in the spring. Registration forms are available on the district’s website, www.waldwick.k12.nj.us, under each school’s website. Foundation hosts golf benefit The Waldwick Education Foundation will host a Golf & Games fundraiser at Greenhouse Golf on Dec. 21. Attendees may play mini-golf, PGA Tour simulated golf, XBOX, Wii, and PS3 on Greenhouse Golf’s 11 foot by 17 foot screens from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This event will include contests and prizes. Tickets are $15 in advance, and may be purchased at Greenhouse Golf, 140 Hopper Avenue; Plaza Jewelers, 10 East Prospect Street; or at Waldwick’s public schools. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $18. Proceeds will benefit educational programs at Waldwick Public Schools. He holds a BA in mechanical engineering from Villanova University and a master’s in public administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Kratz said the new administrator would be working on special projects, budgeting issues and the town website, which Kratz has been eager to upgrade for some time, in addition to the grants component.
