Club sets events for New Year The Saddle River Valley Residents Club, (formerly known as the Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club) will host a New Year Coffee Social on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. The event will be held in a member’s home. Upcoming club events will include an International Luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and an outing to the Little Fireside Theater in Oradell to see “The Price” on Jan. 26. Other activities sponsored by the organization include a book club, Out to Lunch, golf, social suppers, and more. Church hosts Christmas events The Old Stone Church in Upper Saddle River will hold its annual Christmas Pageant and Holiday Brunch on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. This year’s presentation was written by the children of the Sunday school. A brunch and sale of baked goods will follow in Fellowship Hall. Upcoming events include an afternoon of Christmas Carols beginning at 2 p.m. on
Sunday, Dec. 23. On Dec. 24, Christmas Eve Family Worship will be held at 5 p.m. and a Candlelight and Communion Worship will be held at 11 p.m. Book Groups to meet Coffee Talk book discussion group will meet on Dec. 13 at the Upper Saddle River Library to discuss “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. Coffee Talk meets the second Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. On Jan. 9, the Novels at Night group will discuss Toni Morrison’s “Home.” The group meets at 7:30 p.m. Copies of the books may be picked up at the library’s circulation desk. Pet licenses available Upper Saddle River dog and cat licenses for 2013 will be available at borough hall beginning Wednesday, Jan. 3. Applications are available online at www.usrtoday.org and may be completed by mail by sending completed form, payment, proof of rabies immunization, and neutering/spaying documentation to Borough of Upper Saddle River, 376 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Licenses and tags will be returned in January. The fee for dogs is $15. Licensing for cats is $5. Santa Claus is coming to town
The Upper Saddle River Volunteer Fire Department is launching Project Santa this holiday season to help raise funds for the department’s Sept. 11 Memorial Project. Imagine a fire truck with lights and sirens that is playing Christmas carols pulling up in front of your home with Santa Claus. For a $20 donation from each Upper Saddle River family, Santa will deliver the family’s gifts by fire truck on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. A delivery schedule will be e-mailed prior to the delivery date. This service is open to Upper Saddle River residents only. To participate, bring a small, wrapped gift (that fits in a normal sized grocery store paper bag) and a check made payable to the “USRFD” to the firehouse, 375 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River. Hanukkah Party, Holiday Gift Drive set The Saddle River Valley Jewish Community Organization will be collecting donations for its Third Annual Senior Holiday Gift Drive through Dec. 19. The gift board is displayed in the Saddle River Post Office, 177 East Saddle River Road in Saddle River, with gift suggestions for needy seniors in the Saddle River Valley and surrounding areas. Local residents are asked to donate only new, unwrapped gifts.
The SRVJCO is a non-profit organization serving the Saddle River Valley. Activities are focused on raising funds for local and national charities. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, Dec. 17. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. in the media center at Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. On Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, the board will hold its reorganization meeting at 8 p.m.
