Volunteers sought The volunteer nursing home outreach program, Growing Relationships and Making Memories, is seeking volunteers to form relationships with socially isolated nursing home residents. Many nursing home residents have no one to visit them.
Similar to a Big Brother/Big Sister philosophy, GRAMM builds individual relationships through activities such as sharing stories, playing games, reading, watching sports/ television, sitting outside, writing letters, or just offering companionship. GRAMM is seeking volunteers who can visit one hour a week for eight weeks. The program is held at the Allendale Nursing Home in Allendale. Call Maryann Greco at (201) 934-6174 or e-mail gramm07@verizon.net. Career development group offered The Allendale Clergy Association has formed a career development group called Opening Doors. The group provides a venue for peer support, networking, and practical job search resources for those who are in transition or seeking to rejoin the workforce. Opening Doors will provide resources for those who seek a communal face-to-face setting, and for those who would prefer to access them from home. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highlands Presbyterian Church, at 270 Franklin Turnpike. All are welcome. The first Wednesday of each month begins with a specific career development topic such as resume writing, interview skills, and tutorials on networking sites. On-site WiFi is available, and representatives from the business community and the Allendale clergy will be on hand. Contact Highlands Presbyterian Church at (201) 3274466 or office@highlandschurch.net with questions.

(continued from page 3) The project will also include the renovation of an existing Crescent School bathroom. The move toward an all-day kindergarten program will allow the district to meet all of the required core curriculum and content standards, while also allowing the children to experience the social benefits of kindergarten. Three kindergarten classes will be housed in each building. At present, more than 70 percent of the state’s school districts offer all-day kindergarten.
