Seniors to see ‘Jonah’ The Seniors Club of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River will visit the Sound and Sight Millennium Theatre in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on Oct. 7 to see the musical “Jonah.” Following the show, the group will enjoy a family-style Amish dinner at the Hershey Farm Restaurant. The group will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road. The return time will be approximately 10 p.m. The cost is $102. Payment must be received by Aug. 17. Registration for pre-school under way Bergen Highlands Pre-school is accepting applications for its September classes for three- and four-year-olds. The program features small classes and utilizes the Land of the Letter People, a learning program that guides children through literacy development. Children participate in hands-on learning, mathematical reasoning, scientific discovery, physical activities, social interaction, and constructive play. The curriculum includes enrichment through Spanish, cooking, music, monthly visits to the Upper Saddle River Library, the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center, and seasonal field trips. Free health consultations offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Department in conjunction with the Saddle River Board of Health will continue to conduct free adult health consultations for Saddle River residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 10 Wolf Run, Saddle River. The sessions consist of blood pressure, pulse, and weight
monitoring. Information including such health concerns as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and a review of medications will also be discussed. All services are provided by a registered nurse. Anyone 18 years of age or older may take advantage of these clinics. No appointment is necessary. Lions Club recycles eyeglasses For more than 60 years, Lions clubs have been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling. Donated glasses are either given to support local eyeglass recycling efforts or shipped to one of seven official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club has placed “eyeglass collection boxes” through the club area. Gold and purple boxes with the Lions logo can be found at the following locations: Mahwah: Bank of America, Town Hall, Library and a drive up white box at 190 Franklin Turnpike; Ramsey: Town Hall, Library, Ramsey High School, Quality Optical (Main Street); Saddle River: Bank of America; and Upper Saddle River: Library. Cub Scouts welcome new members Registration is now open for the 2012-13 Upper Saddle River Cub Scout program. Boys who will be entering grades one through five are welcome to participate. Boys are divided into dens according to grade level. One evening a month, all dens gather for a pack meeting and activity. Families are included in pack events. Free audiobook software available The Upper Saddle River Library is offering free software for patrons who wish to upgrade to the latest version of OverDrive Media Console 3.2. This program will allow nearly all audiobooks from www.beateaudio.org to be transferred to the iPod®, iPhone™, iPod touch®, and iPod nano®, as well as the Zune® and other MP3 players, from a Windows® computer. Check out with a library card, and then download to enjoy titles on a computer, MP3 player (including Apple® devices), and burn many titles to CD. Marine Corps League meets Saddle River Marine Corps League meets at 7:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday every month at the firehouse located at West Saddle River Road and Allendale Avenue. GO Club meets at library The Upper Saddle River Public Library is playing host to the GO Club on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Adult Solarium. The library is located at 345 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. The GO Club, which has no fees, gives members an opportunity to improve their skills and meet others who share their interest in the game. Players at all skill levels can compete against one another because of a unique handicapping system that gives each player an equal opportunity to win.
