He was a 1952 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He spent several years in public accounting before joining the family business, Black Millwork in Allendale. He was president of the company for over 40 years and was recognized as a leader of the lumber and millwork industries. He was a member of the Pine Valley Golf Club and the Arcola Country Club. He is survived by his companion Kitty, his children Robb, David, Missy, and Gates, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Councilor, and his son Thomas. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Donna Marie Hansen, nee Haberlack, of Wayne, formerly of Waldwick, died Aug. 3. She was 52. She was a graduate of Waldwick High School, and Bergen Community College with a degree in computer science. She had been employed at Witco Corp. in Woodcliff Lake for more than 15 years. She is survived by her husband Wayne Hansen and her daughter Dawn Marie Hansen, both of Wayne, and her parents Edward and Ann (Enders) Haberlack of Waldwick. Edward John Herter III, formerly of Midland Park, died July 4. He was 73. He was a graduate of Ridgewood High School Class of 1957 and received an associate degree in business from Bergen Community College, a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Ramapo College, and a master’s degree in management from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He was in the graphics arts and printing industry for over 40 years working in a variety of sales and sales management roles for organizations such as Borden Chemical, Lewis Roberts Inc., Rollcut, and Superior Printing Ink. Most recently, he was president and founder of Ramapo Graphics, Herter Associates, and Clean Impressions. He was also an adjunct college professor at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Massachusetts, Nyack College in New York, and Felician College. He was posthumously given the “Winter Warmers Board Member of the Year” award. He was a member of the New Jersey National Guard. He was a past board member of the Tag and Label Manufacturing Institute, a past member of Delta Mu Delta (an international business honor society), a past member of LeTip International, a past member of Rotary Club International, and a past member of Jaycees. He was a member or the Fitchburg Business Networking Group and the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, and an ambassador for the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce. Kanzler of Mahwah died July 21. He was 84. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Before he retired in 1997, he was a financial advisor for the North Bergen Board of Education. Prior to that, he was an accountant for CBS in New York. He served as treasurer of the Franklin Heights Homeowners Association in Mahwah. He is survived by his wife Ann (nee Ditaranto) of Mahwah, and his daughters Patricia Kanzler of New Providence and Donna Datino of Montebello, New York, one granddaughter, one step-grandchild, and his brother Thomas Kanzler. Ruth B. Lutz, nee Bode, of Glen Rock, formerly of Carlstadt, died on Aug. 5. She was 92. Before retiring in 1982, she was a town clerk for the Village of Ridgewood. She was a former member of the Carlstadt First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Franklin, and her brother Walter Bode. Arrangements were made by Kohler Funeral Home in Wood-Ridge. Frederick James “Fred” Mabie Jr. of Corona del Mar, California, formerly of Waldwick, died July 27. He was 89. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. following a distinguished 39-year career. He is survived by his children Donna Peters, Valerie Dryka, Nadine Mulvey, and Frederick J. Mabie, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and his brothers Robert and Donald Mabie. He was predeceased by his brothers John Edward Mabie and Ken Mabie and his sister Gloria Mabie Durkin. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. John Mayurnik of Waldwick died Aug. 7. He was 71. He was a life-long music teacher, including 28 years with the Rutherford Board of Education. He taught music until 2012, most recently in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his children Kathryn Sein, his former wife and friend Valerie Lempfert, his granddaughter Charlotte, his brotherin-law Arnie Barnes-Schwartz, and his nieces Rebecca, Elisabeth, and Shara. Florence Pfister-Anderson, nee Gallas, of Upper Saddle River died Aug. 2. She was 79. She is survived by her husband Andrew, her children Patricia A. Pfister, John D. Pfister, Phyllis P. Roth Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Ridgewood and New York City, died July 31. He was 85. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and son Geoffrey. Memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders. Robert A. Steinbach of Mahwah, formerly of Ridgewood, died Aug. 2. He was 69. He was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Clarkson University. He began his professional career at Grumman Aerospace, where he supported the Lunar Space Module and the Navy’s A6A and E2A aircraft. In 1965, he circled the globe for Grumman on the USS Independence, teaching the Navy how to use the computer software he helped design which monitored the A6A fighter jet while it was in the air. He was a supervisor at Grumman’s Peconic, Long Island test facility, overseeing the computer equipment that supported flight testing of the E2A fighter jet. He transferred to finance and earned an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business. He was a CFO and corporate controller for the remainder of his career, working for various companies before becoming a consultant. He took classes at the Culinary Institute of New York in New York City and the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He is survived by his wife Martha (nee Meyer) Steinbach, his children Christopher of Manhattan, Lesley Kroczynski of Mahwah, and Sarah Hill of Jackson Heights, Queens, and three grandchildren.
