Waldwick
Families gather under the stars for movie night
More than 100 residents of all ages attended the recent free outdoor movie night sponsored by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce at The Oval. Pictured clockwise, from above: Chamber Secretary Kim Manziano, President Christine Figliuolo and Waldwick’s First Lady Marion Giordano; chamber members manning booths at the event; Perry Quaranta of PQ Productions, who handled the showing and music; and Chris and Alex Casserta and their dad, Chris, ready for comfort.
Three young women from Waldwick sat out in sweltering weather recently selling lemonade to benefit a cause near and dear to their family: the Waldwick Train Station restoration. The three cousins, Nicolette and Grace Perrone and Cristina Horvzy raised $12.05, which will bring in three times that amount when leveraged against grants the Waldwick Community Alliance will be eligible to receive. “How often does this happen – slim and none,” said WCA President Chuck Wanamaker of the donation. “It was really touching to see the three girls come in here in 95degree weather and offer a coffee can with the money,” he added.
Cousins ‘take the heat’ for train station
Nicolette said their grandfather, Dominic Raffaele, who lives down the street on Hewson Avenue, suggested the station project would be a worthy recipient of their hard-earned funds. Their mother, Maria, explained that her grandfather, Antonio, had worked for the railroad. WCA Vice President Doug Cowie said that the girls’ contribution will be added to the organization’s “Donate a Buck” fundraising campaign, whose funds are then matched 3 to 1 when the WCA applies for grants through the “Bergen County Historic Preservation Trust Fund” which is part of the “Bergen County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.”
