Waldwick Borough officials will take a closer look at the recycling center property with an eye towards making some improvements. At a recent meeting of the mayor and council, Councilwoman Anita Bozzo brought up the condition of the center and

asked that something be done. “It’s not pleasant,” she said. “It seemed littered. I know we’re using it more, but it’s important to keep it physically clean,” she added. “The reception from residents is awesome, and I’ve had mostly clean experiences,” said Councilman Frank Palladino, acknowledging that during peak hours of usage, it is hard for the work crew to keep up. “For the space we have, we’re doing a great job,” Palladino said. Bozzo said paving the lot at the center would improve its appearance. “A monitor would not be the answer,” she said. Resident Bob Rose told the council that the accumulation of cardboard brought in for recycling is largely responsible for the unkempt appearance. He pointed out that if the public works employees are at the
yard, they help residents and keep the area clean. Councilman Chuck Farricker said that perhaps extending the hours of operation would improve the situation. Borough Administrator Gary Kratz said that the hours have traditionally been 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but that they can be changed, if the council sees the need to do so. Kratz said that in previous years moneys had been budgeted for making upgrades and paving the lot, but that other pressing issues had displaced the projects. “We can certainly revisit the issue,” he said.

A small parcel of land on Lincoln Place in Waldwick will soon start generating tax revenue. The Waldwick Council last week authorized the sale of the 25 by 100-ft. lot to adjoining property owners Andrew and Katherine Krysa. The Krysas will pay $5,000 for the lot, the minimum bid price at which it was advertised. Taxes due for 2012 will be prorated from the date of closing. The governing body had determined earlier this year that it no longer needed the property and was pleasantly surprised when the neighbors indicated an interest in purchasing it. The parcel’s size is much smaller than the minimum size required by ordinance for development, so the deed of sale will

specifically prohibit building a house on the property. Under the terms of the sale, the parcel will be added to the Krysas’ property, and the lot line will be eliminated. The lot may remain in its natural state or may be landscaped and may be used to expand the pre-existing principal residence. The borough has other small parcels it is considering selling to get them on the tax rolls. The neighbors of one landlocked lot behind Amster’s Tavern, an 800 sq. ft. parcel assessed at $8,700, have indicated interest in acquiring it, but the borough is working on getting clear title to it. No one has shown an interest in purchasing any of the other sites.
