Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • August 1, 2012 Waldwick Family and friends of Marine SSgt Joseph D’Augustine, the Waldwick High School graduate who was killed in action on March 27, 2012 while serving on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, are setting up a memorial fund to honor his life, and are sponsoring a golf outing later this month as the first fundraiser. The first annual SSgt Joseph D’Augustine Memorial Fund Golf Outing will be held on Monday, Aug. 27 at Montammy Golf Club in Alpine. Funds raised from this benefit will go towards two schol- Memorial fund to honor Staff Sergeant D’Augustine ter and dedication to community service. Additionally, the memorial fund will help the soldiers who served directly or indirectly with SSgt D’Augustine and soldiers still serving, whether it be giving the soldier’s child a scholarship, sending packages to soldiers on holidays, helping injured soldiers with their bills, or any other identified need. Marine SSgt Joseph D’Augustine arships awarded annually to one male and one female graduating senior from Waldwick High School who exemplify the highest standards of citizenship through strong charac- D’Augustine dedicated his life to the service and protection of others. His personal awards included the Bronze Star with Valor, the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (third award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the NATO-ISAF Medal. Persons who do not golf may still participate by attending dinner only or through sponsorships.
