Through the cooperative efforts of the Allendale Chamber of Commerce and several of its members, West Allendale Avenue will soon be getting an upgrade. Benches and decorative planters will be installed this summer, the first phase of a project spearheaded by the chamber’s beautification committee to spruce up the borough’s public areas. “What better way for the chamber to get a bigger presence in town than to do more for the community, not just the Holiday Walk or Allendale Festival Day,” said Ed Kalpagian, State Farm agent, the committee’s chairman since it was organized nearly a year ago. Other committee members include Teresa Fontanese of the Allendale Woman’s Club, Mark Borst of Borst Landscape, Bruce Rohsler of Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery and Florist, Councilwoman Amy Wilczynski, Adrienne Tembekjian of Jumbleiah and Chris

The new 6-ft. benches (similar to the ones at Orchard Park, only with black cast iron trim) and 18-in. high concrete planters will be located on the south side of the street along the business frontage and on the north side of the street, street-side opposite the business fronts. (see accompanying graphic for exact locations). Kalpagian said his committee is counting on businesses, organizations and residents at large to sponsor a bench or planter or both. The Allendale Woman’s Club was the first contributor, Kalpagian said, committing to one bench and two planters. Sponsorships are as follows: bench, $1,500; planter, $ 350; bench and two planters, $2,000. All proceeds will go to the overall town beautification effort, with any additional funds applied to other park projects in (continued on page 10)
