Allendale April 18, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 PTO provides $8,581 for upcoming class trip by John Koster The Allendale Parent Teacher Organization had underwritten the entire $8,581 cost of a sixth grade class trip to the Fairview Lake YMCA Camp at Newton, New Jersey for the sixth graders in the local school system. The trip will feature team-building activities and challenging initiatives that offer the students an opportunity to bond as a class. The program is designed to foster important skills such as communication, trust, active listening, leadership, and creative problem solving. Outdoor environmental educational skills will also be offered to enhance the sixth grade curriculum at Brookside School. The trip will take place Nov. 15. The third grade received approval for two trips, one free and one paid. The third graders were approved for a free visit to the John Fell House in Allendale on May 23, where they will learn about the American Revolution and will see a re-enactment of the capture of John Fell, an Allendale resident who was a member of the Second Continental Congress and helped win ratification of the United States Constitution. The second trip, on June 8, will take the third graders to the Meadowlands Environmental Center in Lyndhurst to study birds of the wetlands and the environment. The cost of this trip will be defrayed at $23.30 per student.
