Nursery school holds Open House The Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School will hold a Spring Open House on Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and their preschoolers are invited to stop in to see the classrooms and meet with the teachers and current members. Classes for two-, three- and four-yearolds are available for the 2012-13 school year. The nursery school offers various educational enrichment programs, including music, Spanish, and French, and new extended and full day options. The school offers a co-op opportunity so parents can assist in their child’s classroom. A non-participating co-op status is also available. Located at 400 Warren Avenue in HoHo-Kus, the nursery school is a stateapproved, non-profit, and non-sectarian school. For details, call (201) 445-8424. Seniors host varied events Nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist Jimmy Margulies will share stories of his favorite cartoons with the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Tuesday, April 24. Space historian Joe Lenox will present “One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind” on May 22. The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building at 335 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. Beverages and desserts are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m. or as noted. Residents age 55 and up are welcome Contact Joan at (201) 444-4896 for program information. Contemporary Club offers scholarship The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will award a $2,000 scholarship to a high school senior who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, noteworthy extracurricular involvement, and meaningful community service. Any high school senior who has lived in Ho-Ho-Kus for at least one year prior to the application date, is eligible for this scholarship. Candidates must submit the application with a high school transcript, personal statement, a guidance counselor’s statement, and two references no later than Wednesday, April 18. Applications are available at Northern Highlands, all local private school guidance departments, and at www.ccofhhk. com. Knights offer scholarships The Saint Luke’s Knights of Columbus Council is offering four $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to attend college in the fall of 2012. Applicants must live in Waldwick or HoHo-Kus, or be registered members of Saint Luke’s parish. The deadline for all applica-
tions is April 18. Scholarships are solely funded by the Knights’ Annual Golf Outing. Prospective applicants should visit their high school guidance department for an application, or contact Chuck Farricker at (201) 670-9040. Students may apply for Schwartz Scholarship All June 2012 high school graduates who attended eighth grade at the Ho-HoKus Public School and are residents of HoHo-Kus are invited to apply for the Jerry M. Schwartz Memorial Scholarship. This fund was established by the Schwartz family upon the death of Jerry Schwartz, who was a student at the Ho-Ho-Kus School. The family chose to honor Jerry by offering a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to an individual student. In order to be eligible, a student must be
accepted to a two- or four-year college. The applicant must be a Ho-Ho-Kus graduate who exhibits evidence of being a caring, ethical individual, and received a passing grade in his or her high school program. Applications for the Jerry M. Schwartz Memorial Scholarship should be sent to: Superintendent Deborah Ferrara, Ho-HoKus School District, 70 Lloyd Road, HoHo-Kus, NJ 07423. The application requires a statement from the student explaining a life experience that had a positive impact and resulted in personal growth and positive change. Documentation of actual college expenses and a letter of recommendation are also required. Completed applications will be confidential and will be reviewed by the Ho-Ho-Kus superintendent and a member of the Schwartz family. Applications are available at www.hohokus.org or the school office, and must be postmarked by May 1, 2012.
