Religious Notes Trinity prepares for Easter The service on Maundy Thursday, April 5, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Allendale will include a traditional foot washing at 7:30 p.m., and a Garden of Gethsemane Service at 8:30 p.m. followed by an Agape Meal at 9 p.m. Trinity will hold Good Friday Services at 3 and 7:30 p.m. on April 6. The Holy Saturday service on April 7 will be at 9 a.m., and the Easter Vigil will begin at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 8, services will be held at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The latter service will include a special “flowering of the cross.” All are welcome. Celebrate Easter at Zion Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saddle River will begin its observance of the “Three Holy Days’ before Easter on Maundy Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated at this service. On Good Friday, April 6, the church will observe the ancient service of Tenabrae, the service of extinguishing of lights. There will be a reading about Christ’s death. When the final candle is extinguished, the church will be left in total darkness except for the small light of the Christ candle. The congregation will gather in the cemetery behind the church on Easter Sunday, April 8, for a 6 a.m. Sunrise Service. Holy Communion will be celebrated. From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., breakfast will be served in Fellowship Hall. The Easter Family Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. with the Bell Choir and Holy Communion. Easter plants will be distributed to children who attend the service. At 11 a.m., the Easter Festival Service, there will be a full Easter processional, a Gospel procession, and the reading of the Gospel. The Festival and Bell choirs will be featured. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Good Friday Devotional Walk set On Good Friday, April 6, the Allendale Community of Churches invites the public to its annual Good Friday Worship Service, “The Way of the Christ’s Passion” devotional walk at noon. This year’s walk will begin outside at Guardian Angel Catholic Church at 320 Franklin Turnpike and end in the sanctuary of Archer United Methodist Church at 37 East April 4, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 15 Allendale Avenue. Participating churches include Archer United Methodist, Calvary Lutheran, Guardian Angel Roman Catholic, Highlands Presbyterian, Trinity Episcopal, and Zion Lutheran in Saddle River. Patterned after the Stations of the Cross, a procession of people, led by a large, roughly-hewn cross, will follow a prescribed route through Allendale. Along the route, the procession will stop at 14 locations for scripture reading and prayer. Many of the lay readers and leaders of this event are youths from each congregation. The 14 stations will recall the events of Christ’s suffering and death and their contemporary implications. The Allendale Clergy Association invites all people, regardless of whether they are members of a church community, to participate. At the last station, a monetary offering to benefit the Center for Food Action will be accepted. Advent Lutheran marks Holy Week Advent Lutheran Church, located at 777 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, has announced its Holy Week services. On Holy Thursday, April 5, and Good Friday, April 6, services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Contemporary worship will be held Saturday, April 7 at 5 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 8, services will be held at 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. A Fellowship Breakfast will be served from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. The church is handicapped accessible and has assisted listening devices available.
